Our Best Bets: Sunday August 20

HORSE RACING: Bear Valley to win 2.50 at Pontefract

By Ben Linfoot

It looks like we’re going to get some nice good ground at Pontefract on Sunday with drying conditions and that could be enough to see BEAR VALLEY back in the winners' enclosure. Third at Ascot twice off marks of 88 this summer, including a really good run last time out, he’s clearly capable of going in off such a rating and Sunday's totepool Betting at Betfred.com Handicap looks the perfect opportunity. Mutadaffeq is the form horse that goes well at the track, but he’s been raised 19lb now this season and looks vulnerable to something that’s better handicapped. That horse is Bear Valley and with Silvestre de Sousa teaming up with his old ally Mark Johnston at Pontefract again he’s taken to register his first win of the campaign.

FOOTBALL: Harry Kane to score and Tottenham win

By David John

I like the chances of Tottenham to get off to an ideal start at Wembley and to boost the price up a little I will combine a home victory with a Harry Kane goal in the score/win double market. Kane has still to register a Premier League goal in August in his career but he looked right on top of his game on Tyneside, forcing a great save from Rob Elliott before rattling a post late on with a fierce shot. He is fully primed to bring closure to that rather strange statistic and can play his part in Tottenham immediately dispelling any issues in terms of getting a victory in their temporary surroundings.

HORSE RACING: September to win 3.20 at the Curragh

By Irish Eyes

September was deeply impressive in winning her maiden at Leopardstown but she gave a two-length-plus beating to the second favourite for today’s Group 1 Prix Morny winner Nyaleti and a bunch of colts in the Chesham and that must be the best form on offer. Happily is probably the second best two-year-old filly in Ireland this season following her five-length Silver Flash win last timeout but the betting simply looks incorrect and 6/4 (General) about September easily rates as the nap of the day.

GREYHOUNDS: Swift Dartmoor (T1) 8.46 Henlow

By Richard Wilson

Wallis' Swift Dartmoor (T1) didn't have much luck in the Peterborough Derby semi-final earlier this week when knocked out of the competition in fourth, though he must have come out of that contest well to be taking his chance in the 8.46 this evening. Badly bumped at the first bend and effectively losing his chance alongside kennelmate Clondoty Alex, it was a messy race and connections clearly feel that their charge has suffered no ill exertions from that race. This is a quick turnaround, but he stays well over this sort of distance and should be right there at the business end if all falls right.

HORSE RACING: Skilled to win 2.35 Southwell

By Murt Khan

Skilled looked like a very well handicapped horse on his last start at Stratford. Subsequent winner Miami Present was well backed that day and really put Skilled under pressure with his jumping, forcing a couple of bad errors from him. Southwell can be a tricky when it comes to jumping but I'm hoping the longer straights will suit the Olly Murphy trained six year old. If getting into a nice rhythm I think he will be very hard to beat.
