York Racecourse and Sky Bet react to first £1m Ebor

Lord Grimthorpe plus Conor Grant and Michael Shinners of Sky Bet react to the first running of the £1million Sky Bet Ebor.

Lord Grimthorpe - Chairman, York Racecourse

"It really has been something. The fantastic thing is everyone has bought into it, the horsemen, the trainers, the jockeys, most importantly the great Yorkshire public. They've loved it.

"It produced an interesting result and good story which is even better and it really feels like we've rejuvenated the race. Sky Bet have been tremendous partners and it's been an all-round win, win."

Conor Grant - Chief Operating Officer, Sky Bet

"What a fantastic race and a brilliant occasion. Being an Irishman, representing Sky Bet, it's wonderful to see Mustajeer win for Ger Lyons and the owner, who is from Cork.

"We'd love this race to develop into a British equivalent of the Melbourne Cup and that was a very good start. We're delighted - we paid eight places for our customers so hopefully plenty will have had some money back and we're very, very happy with the first running of the £1million Sky Bet Ebor."

Michael Shinners - Head of Sports PR, Sky Bet

"Today has been the culmination of months and months of hard work. We were lucky enough to see Mustajeer last week on a trip to Ger Lyons' yard and it's wonderful for connections he's won.

"It was a brilliant race with so many horses in with a chance inside the final furlong and I couldn't be more happy with how it's gone."
