Due to the inevitably large field size chasing pots of prize money, sales races can often look difficult to solve but, on most occasions, there is a big range of abilities on show and, in Saturday's Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury, MAGGIES ANGEL stands out at the weights.
Richard Fahey's filly has a good deal in hand over her rivals based on official ratings following her excellent second to stable-companion Dance Diva in a listed race at Newmarket (6f) earlier in the month which resulted in her figure rising from 86 to 95.
Off just 8st 6lb, Maggies Angel will surely take some beating receiving weight from lower-rated opposition and the only concern would be the drop in distance as she seems to stay six furlongs well.
However, this race is invariably run at a good pace and her stamina and superior talent ought to see her through in the closing stages under Paul Hanagan.
Among his five entries, Fahey's Bengali Boys could be next best as his second to Chatburn at Redcar in late May reads quite well, though it is surprising that he has not been seen since.
Of the others, Corinthia Knight could go well as, while rated 6lb lower then the selection and conceding 1lb, he was not disgraced when ninth in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot last time (Declarationoflove 13th).
Meanwhile, the form of the Queen Mary Stakes is represented chiefly by Pursuing The Dream who defied odds of 150/1 to take sixth place behind the impressive winner Heartache, with Lady Anjorica 12th, Mother Of Dragons 15th and Debutante's Ball 19th.
The daughter of Dream Ahead would surely be thereabouts on that effort but has since flopped at Bath.
For a second selection, I like the look of APPHIA in the listed BetBright Aphrodite Stakes at Newmarket.
This daughter of High Chaparral appeared to be crying out for a bit further when narrowly beaten by the re-opposing Serenada at Sandown first time out and when dead-heating at Goodwood - both races over a mile and a quarter.
And so it proved when, upped in class and starting a 66/1 chance, she kept on well to finish fifth behind Coronet in the Group Two Ribblesdale Stakes (1m 4f) at Royal Ascot where she had Serenada some way behind her in ninth.
Hugo Palmer looks to have found the ideal race for Apphia who, in all three of her career starts this season, has shown a very willing attitude.
