Shock 300/1 winner enters record books at Kelso on Thursday

Crokes Cross become the joint longest-priced winner in British racing history with a 300/1 triumph at Kelso on Thursday.

The seven-year-old finished a 167-length last on his latest start in a Kilbeggan bumper last June but he defied his massive odds to win on hurdling debut for new trainer Stuart Coltherd in the Every Race Live On Racing TV Novices' Hurdle.

Matched at the maximum price of 1000 in-running on Betfair, he was pushed along after three out but led on the run-in and pulled clear to win going away by a length and a quarter under Jamie Hamilton.

His remarkable 300/1 winning SP meant he joins Blowers in the record books, Nigel Hawke's horse winning at that price at Exeter only three months ago.

There have also been a couple of 300/1 winners in Ireland, but Equinoctial had set the previous UK record when defying monster odds of 250/1, also at Kelso, back in 1990.
