Haddaf in a hurry in Scurry

Haddaf bounced back to form to claim a second success over the five-furlong track at Sandown as he took the Listed honours in the Randox Health Scurry Stakes.

Unplaced at York after winning his first two starts, the James Tate-trained son of Dawn Approach returned to winning ways in style.

Held up in the early stages as Wings Of The Rock and Sound And Silence blazed the trail, Haddaf (5-1) was produced by James Doyle to hit the front in the final furlong and won going away by three-quarters of a length from Tricksy Spirit.

Wings Of Rock edged out Sound And Silence for third, some two and a quarter lengths away.

Koditime, the 3/1 favourite, never got into the race and finished sixth.

Tate said: "He obviously likes the track. That's his third visit. He was third in a Listed race as a two-year-old was a winner of class two handicap and now he's the winner of a Listed.

"There's something about this five at Sandown, it's uphill, and he loves it. He's never even been well drawn yet still runs well there."

The Group Three Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle could be his next port of call.

"I'd love to take him back to Sandown but there isn't an obvious target so we'll have to try something different," said Tate.

"We might try six furlong next time on the Tapeta at Newcastle in the Chipchase.

"We haven't tried six furlongs for a while and he is a winner on the Tapeta. He likes that surface so we might try that there.

"On a normal, flat five furlongs he gets a little outpaced, but this uphill five at Sandown does suit him."
