A Racing TV survey has found that 93% of its around 2,000 respondents “think that they should be responsible for deciding their staking limits or betting spend.”
Racing TV members were asked for their feelings on proposed betting restrictions, such as only being allowed to lose a maximum of £100 per month, unless you can prove you have the means to lose more.
Affordability restrictions have been put forward by the Gambling Commission consultation and their findings could impact on the Gambling Act Review, which last week started a 16-week call for evidence period.
The survey also found that the requests for personal information, as a means of proving your means, would not go down well, as 89% of respondents “disagreed that it was legitimate for bookmakers to ask for financial documentation in order to allow a higher spending limit.”
There is also a fear that certain, tighter restrictions could push punters towards unregulated, or ‘black’, markets and the survey results largely agreed as 83% “thought that the proposed affordability checks would push betting underground.”
