Our star columnist has a horse-by-horse guide to his team for the second day of the Welcome To Yorkshire Ebor Festival.
Thursday:
13:55 Moon Of Love
It’s a big ask for her to run in a Sky Bet Lowther but she’s a filly we’ve always thought an awful lot of. She just got overheated before the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and we’ve given her plenty of time to get over it. Her work has been good in the build up to this and she’ll run ok.
14:25 Corndavon Lad
He’s a disappointing horse. We really liked him early on and he hasn’t delivered so we’re trying a visor for the first time here. He was the last one to get in the race so according to the handicapper is the worst horse in the race. I hope he isn’t.
14:25 Three Coins
He did well to win at Thirsk the other day and on ratings he has a bit to find but he came out it well and is entitled to take his chance.
(video no longer available)
Because he won the Brocklesby he has a three-pound penalty as that’s a Class 2 race. It’s crazy and unless something changes I won’t be having a runner in it next year. This horse needs to prove he stays six furlongs but there hasn’t been a race yet when he hasn’t been finishing. He has a great chance if he does stay.
14:25 Spygate
He has a lot to find on the face of it but he’s a good looking horse who could progress. Whether it’s fast enough to win a race like this could be another story though.
14:25 National League
I’m a fraction worried a sharp six furlongs here could just catch him out. He’s a horse I do like and he’s progressing. If he can lay up early he’ll be coming home strongly.
15:00 Crownthorpe
He’s probably better on slower ground and I hope it’s not too quick for him. He’s had a break and looks a picture. He’s in great form at home and I’d love to see him run a big race
16:50 Dance Diva
I’ve been very pleased with her. She was retired to go to stud but had a few little issues and came back to us. She’s run ok in her first two starts back and the handicapper has given her a real chance by dropping her down to her lowest mark for two-and-a-half years. She could run well.
16:50 Starlight Romance
She loves York and while she hasn’t quite been in the same form this year, you should never draw a line through her at the Knavesmire. She could surprise a few people.
