Our columnist with a guide to his runners across three meetings on Saturday.
Ascot
14:45 Castle Stuart
He’s been running well and was a promoted third in the John Smith’s Cup at York last time. I’m sure he will stay a mile-and-a-half but he needs to relax to do so and that’s the key on Saturday. If Luke Ferraris is able to switch him off I think he’ll go very well. Track, ground and hopefully trip are all ideal but it’s all about how he is through the early part of the race.
Haydock
16:09 Horace Wallace
If you told me this horse would be getting beat from marks in the 60s I’d have been staggered but he’s down to 66 now and was fourth from 68 at Ayr last time. That was a better run though and he has a handy draw in two at Haydock. I’m tempted to go forward and even make the running with him on Saturday from there. We know he can gallop.
Ayr
17:27 Unbeatable Fame
He looks one for nurseries at this stage. We’ve no excuses for his two runs to date at Beverley and Thirsk and he’ll get a mark after this but I hope he shows a bit more.
18:00 South Parade
She was third at Musselburgh the other day but I was a still a little disappointed with her. She’s now on a carer-low mark but that’s a reflection of how she’s been running but it was a bit better last time which offers hope she might be on her way back.
19:30 Elemma
She’s been disappointing and ran no race at all on handicap debut at Newcastle last time. She needs to start showing more.
19:30 Masai Angel
He ran poorly at Thirsk on his handicap debut but came back sore and a little out-of-sorts that day. He’s a horse who isn’t very easy to train, he can be very keen both at home and on the racecourse, but he has ability, certainly enough to suggest he should go well from a rating of 62.
20:00 Supreme Clarets
He has a good draw, the track and trip are ideal and I’d expect him to run very well. He was on the back-foot from the moment the stalls opened at Chester last time and I’m happy to put a line through that run. He had been in great form before that and deserves to get his head in front.
