Our star columnist goes through his Saturday team and he's hoping Growl can pick up a penalty at Chester to enable him to get into the Ayr Gold Cup.
A Mayson filly who we were quite pleased with on debut at York last month. The step up in trip will suit and I’m sure she’ll be winning soon, if not Saturday at Chester. We'll see what happens but we like her.
She rattled off a hat-trick earlier in the season but has been below her best on her last two starts so needs to bounce back. It’s a valuable race and very tough, but she'd have a small each-way chance on her best form.
We have three in the Sportpesa handicap and Penwortham is a Chester specialist with a good draw for a change. He’ll have to step up on what he’s shown on his last few starts but he loves it round here.
Aljady also has a good draw in stall four but he has been a fraction disappointing, so we’ve put cheekpieces on him. I’ve had him in mind for some big handicaps and he steps up in trip a little here, but has to step up on form.
He trotted up the last time he was at Chester but he’s drawn a bit wider in seven on Saturday. Six furlongs was sharp enough the last twice, so he should enjoy stepping back up and he’s still progressing.

She’s a Zoffany filly that we like a lot. She ran really well in second first time out at Haydock but was a bit disappointing next time at Doncaster. She looks a nice filly for next year but I hope she gets back on track here. She could run a big race.
Exhort has improved this season and she beat subsequent Goodwood winner Billesdon Brook at Pontefract. It would be nice to get some more black type in the Atalanta Stakes and a mile around Sandown should suit.
She’s a debutant by Iffraaj and we like her, she’s quite nice. It’s a huge shout to win a conditions race first time out but I’m happy with her and she’s drawn well. She will improve for it.
The handicapper has given her a rating of 75 which I don’t think she can win off in a handicap. That's why she's in a claimer and if the handicapper is right she should go close. We shall see.
It was fantastic that he finally got his head back in front in a good race at Ripon last time and he’s gone up 6lb for it to 95. The aim now is to get him in the Ayr Gold Cup but he needs a penalty which is why he's in here. The worry is the trip might be sharp enough but he's drawn well in three.
Not fared the best in stall nine but he loves Chester and won over the course and distance back in July off just a 2lb lower mark. He’ll need a bit of luck from his draw, though.
He's his own worst enemy but he showed at Doncaster earlier in the season he has the ability. He’s 1lb lower now so he’s well handicapped on that run and his homework but it’ll be tough for him from stall eight.
Has the plum stall in one and he won at Chester in June so we know he can do it here. It might be a bit sharp for him, six furlongs is probably ideal, so he might need a bit of luck.
Nice debut - Toronado Queen does it nicely first-time out on a good afternoon for @RichardFahey at @CatterickRaces

He’s been a bit unlucky and has crept up a bit without winning but he’s a very consistent horse. Megan Nicholls seems to get a great tune out of our horses so I hope she can work her magic again here on him.
Nursery debut for this son of Dark Angel and he’s progressed quite nicely in three novice races. He’s getting stronger all the time and he’s working well, but it looks competitive. He’s a horse for next year as well.
Has won a couple of times this season but I’ve just been a bit disappointed with him on his last few starts. It was a bit of a funny race with them all spread across the track last time at Catterick and I wouldn’t be surprised if he bounced back from that.
She ran okay dropped to five furlongs at Doncaster so we've kept her at that trip here. Having said that any rain would enhance her chance. It looks an open race, but she’d have an each-way shout.

This is his ninth run in a row at Chester and he usually runs well there. He won off 77 in May and he’s only 2lb higher on Saturday, but he hasn’t got much in hand, if anything. He stays and he’s a grand, hardy, horse.
