Richard Fahey guide to his Saturday team

Another busy Saturday for our star columnist includes three runners in the Sky Bet Dash a York. Check out his unmissable guide to his bumper team.

13:50 Ascot Flaming Princess

We’re trying to get some Black Type with her and she’s very honest and very genuine which always helps. She needs to find more here but she’s tough and if she hit the frame I’d be delighted.

14:05 York Maggies Angel

She’s come down to a workable mark and has no weight on her back. With very happy with her at home but she really needs to start showing something now.

14:05 York Penwortham

He did well to win at Chester the other day when he overcame a desperate draw but they went flat out which helped him pick them up late. He likes the Roodee and will need to bring his best form from there to this track.

14:05 York Starlight Romance

She runs consistently well at York and I’d love her to win for Norman Steel who is over for this meeting. She was second on her last start here and that would give her a real chance at a place she loves.

14:10 Newcastle Trevie Fountain

He looks like he’s going to be heading down the handicap route but is quite laid back and the first run at Doncaster will have done him the world of good for all he has plenty more to find here.

14:40 York Brian The Snail

I thought be ran a blinder at Ascot last time and if he brings that form to the table he’d definitely have a big chance here. He’s hard to win with but I did think he ran particularly well at Ascot.

14:40 York Growl

He’s got himself well handicapped and is another with a sound chance based on his run here a couple of starts ago. You can excuse his effort at Ascot last time and the more rain the better for him.

14:40 York Paddy Power

He’s never landed a big put but has won plenty of races and rain would help him too as he’s effective on slower ground and has no weight.

14:45 Newcastle Defence Treaty

He’s been working extremely well at home and while he’s a horse we’ve always liked, it’s taken a while for the penny to drop. A couple of wins did wonders for his confidence and he’s a course-and-distance winner here. He needs his A Game but could easily run very well again.

14:50 Newmarket Society Red

His season has been a real mixed bag of good and ordinary runs. He’ll pop up somewhere and I hope it’s one of his better days on Saturday.

15:00 Ascot Zap

He's a horse I like and while he’s two pounds wrong at the weights, it wouldn’t shock me one day if he went and won something like this.

15:10 Chester Gabrial The Devil

He’s drawn six which will work but ideally would want further so we need rain to slow the track down for him.

15:10 Chester Gabrial The Saint

I was surprised he won over five furlongs at the last meeting here and he’s got a plum draw here which is a plus. I’d still rather it was over further but he’s in good nick.

15:10 Chester Powerallied

He won this race last year but is drawn out in the car park this time around and will need all the luck from out there. We’ve had a few overcome it this year though so all hope isn’t lost.

15:15 York Forest Ranger

He needs up to his game in a strong renewal of the Group Two Sky Bet York Stakes and his Group Two penalty makes it difficult. Rain would inconvenience one or two othe others and help us so we’ll be watching the skies and while he’ll need a lifetime best to win this, I thought he produced one in the Huxley Stakes last time so you never know.

15:45 York Creativity

This is a big filly who we like. She’s been working well at home and I hope she runs a big race on debut here.

15:45 York Internationaltiger

He’s a homebred colt who has been very backward in is mind. He needs a run somewhere and this is a nice starting point for him.

15:55 Newcastle Furzig

He’s been getting the hang of things of late. He was a bit raw and racing has done him the world of good. He ran very well when second at York last time and if he could bring that to the table here he’d have a big chance.

16:25 Chester Pacino

He lost his way a bit and has been running ok without the handicapper dropping him too much. He started the season well when he was fit and the others might not have been and has been suffering since.

16:25 Chester Salam Zayed

He’s right on his A Game at the moment. He was sent to me as a staying horse then we found out he didn’t stay and dropping in trip has definitely helped. He did well to win at Nottingham last time and when he gets to the front he half pulls up so it’s possible there’s more in the tank.

16:30 Newcastle Claire Underwood

We’ve been very disappointed with her of late but hopefully it’s again a case of horses for courses as she’s won here before and is in great order. She needs to get back to winning ways soon though.

16:55 York Amber Spark

I hope the rain comes as it was far too quick for her at Salisbury the other day. It was rattlingly fast there and the slower it is, the better her chance at York.

16:55 27/07/19 Red Hot

We like her and after a couple of disappointing efforts she was a bit better at Chester last time. We’re happy with her at home and she could go well.

17:05 Newcastle Shazzab

She’s been frustrating and this is a big day for her as she’s heading for retirement if she doesn’t show more here.

17:25 York Ramesses

He knows how to win which always helps and he did well to score at Ayr last time. He goes up in grade and more is needed here but it would be no surprise if he found the necessary improvement.

17:35 Chester Gabrial The One

The handicapper probably has him about right for all he’s running well. We’ve tried him between ten furlongs and a mile and six and he’s been competitive every time. He goes well at Chester, which is handy as he runs at every meeting here, and he’ll run his race again.
