Racing tips: Free daily betting advice including Nap selection, recommended multiple and one to oppose

Our new feature maps out the best punting plan for Saturday, including the Nap of the day, a recommended multiple, plus a bet on the evening card at Chepstow.

Every day, our team of racing experts will pull together their strongest fancies and best bets, headlined by the Sporting Life Nap.

Nap of the Day - Orbaan 2.25 Newbury

Why: ORBAAN has been a little in-and-out in his three starts for David O'Meara, though the quick ground was presumably a fair excuse at Newmarket, while last time wasn’t too much of a backward step having won at 25/1 at York on July 9.

He was put up 4lb for that victory over subsequent Glorious Goodwood winner Muraad and wasn’t alone in just struggling to cope with well-treated three-year-old Hartswood late on.

Orbaan moved like the classiest horse in that race and I’d be amazed if he wasn’t able to genuinely compete at Group level before the year’s out - he just took a little while to engage top gear for some reason.

A return to softer ground will play to his strengths here and he looks well worth another chance off an unchanged mark of 104 before having his sights raised again.

One to Oppose - Tinker Toy 4.00 Doncaster

Why: We won't be the only ones with this view and let's start off by saying Roger Varian's Tinker Toy is a horse of rich potential and there was plenty to like about his two wins in novice races at Salisbury and here.

And yes a mark of 90 could well underestimate him, but he makes his handicap debut in a big field pitched in against some battle-hardened gunslingers. It's a new experience for him and he looks far too short despite his sexy profile.

Multiple Choice - Saturday Lucky 15

2.05 Newmarket

3.00 Newbury

3.50 Newmarket

5.40 Doncaster

Why: Alignak posted a career-best effort when touched off by Truesham in a Listed race at Haydock last time. He'll improve further going up in trip here and can complete a double for his yard as Boss Power looked a handicapper to follow at Yarmouth last time and it would be a surprise if he didn't follow up.

Richard Fahey felt Ventura Diamond wasn't at her best when winning at Goodwood and she's expected to relish the step up to seven furlongs from a very fair mark. New Chapter is beautifully bred and his education was completed at Ayr last time. He starts in handicaps from a rating of 79 and will be higher soon.

The Late Show - Chepstow each-way double

4.55

7.00

Why: Swissal was back to his best here last time when narrowly failing to get up from a one pound lower mark over course and distance. He was slowly away and looks sure to go well again given his effectiveness at the track and a strong pace to aim at.

Willa is sure to run her race in the Call Star Sports On 08000 521 321 Fillies' Handicap. Richard Hannon's charge will appreciate the return to a mile after tiring late on when a sound fourth at Windsor last time. She runs from the same mark here and holds very sound claims of hitting the frame at least from the front with the unexposed Pretty Pickle sure to be a popular favourite.

Monday punting guide...

Nap of the Day - Internationalangel 2.20 Catterick

Why: Presuming the rain gets in, division two of the seven furlong handicap looks a good race for a bet as a couple of the market principals won't like the going getting too soft, including Oso Rapido.

Soaring Star is unexposed and a fascinating contender for Kevin Ryan but was taken out at Doncaster recently on account of an easy surface so he's passed over, while La Voix Magique will handle it but isn't certain to enjoy the drop back to seven furlongs around here as she takes a while to get stoked up.

Ready preference is for the Richard Fahey-trained INTERNATIONALANGEL, a daughter of Dark Angel who looks versatile in terms of underfoot conditions.

She's started out life in handicaps with a workable mark based on a fair fifth at Haydock and a good second at Yarmouth last month.

They were three-year-old-only races but she gets weight-for-age off the older brigade in here and has a good draw too in stall four.

One to Oppose - Night Moment 1.15 Catterick

Why: Night Moment has just about the best form heading into Catterick's opener but there are reasons to be cautious, to say the least. Firstly, the conditions of the race demand he must concede more than a stone in weight to Amy Murphy's fairly promising filly, Altalune, who has yet to win a race but looks more than capable on the evidence of her two starts to date.

The other potentially bigger issue for Mark Johnston's juvenile is the weather forecast as it's far from certain he'll handle a change of going. There's some thundery showers expected to hit through the morning and around the start of the meeting which could result in a dramatic alteration to the conditions. On balance, he's one to take on.

The Late Show - Windsor each-way double

5.00 Iris Dancer

Why: Iris Dancer endured a bit of a nightmare start at Catterick last time but ran quite well in the circumstances and wasn't knocked about. She'll enjoy the step back up to six furlongs on that evidence and an initial mark of 60 allows her to sneak in at the top of this nursery.

It's hoped the eight runners all stand their ground there so we can get an each-way double rolling into the very next race, in which the well-bred Alwaatn Sound should be able to go well.

Kevin Ryan's horse came back after wind surgery and a gelding operation to win a shade more cosily than the official margin suggests at Hamilton at the start of the month, where he seemed to handle the soft ground and stiff finish well.

A move back up to six furlongs looks ideal on that evidence and it could be that he's going handicapping off a nice mark, despite being shifted up 5lb from the initial rating he was given before the run north of the border.
