Horse Racing Tips: Nap of the Day
Ben Linfoot had a couple of Friday winners including the Nap - now Dave Ord has Saturday's best bets.
Saturday's selections
ROWAYEH - 5.50 Newmarket (NAP)
She looks to be a handy mark to begin her four-year-old season and ROWAYEH is taken to make a winning return.
Owen Burrows' charge beat subsequent Listed winner Mystical Pearl at Sandown in May and ran very well when third from a wide draw at the Qatar Goodwood Festival. She was too keen in a slowly-run race at York next time but there's a very strong pace forecast here, she has a handy high draw and has shown she handles the Rowley Mile track.
GOLDEN MELODY - 4.20 Thirsk
She shaped with loads of promise when second in a 0-75 on her return and GOLDEN MELODY should go well here.
After a winless 2023, she's operating from a reduced mark and is a dual winner at this track. She’s five pounds lower than her last winning rating and that run behind On The River at Pontefract suggested her turn wasn't far away.
MAGHLAAK - 4.30 Goodwood
This is a fascinating handicap but MAGHLAAK is going to improve past a mark of 86 at some stage and that can hopefully be on Saturday.
He showed plenty in two starts last season, including when second from this rating at Haydock in May. That was on ground quicker than he’d encountered before and he was carried left inside the final furlong.
Kept going by his powerful team at five and gelded over the winter, he is a potential improver in a race in which he ran well in last season.
NOCTE VALTUS - 4.35 Uttoxeter
This represents a drop in class for NOCTE VALTUS and he’s fancied to take full advantage.
He wasn’t at his best at Leicester and Sandown the last twice but is down five pounds allowing him to slot into this 0-120 contest from the ceiling rating. Cameron Iles takes a further seven off and he’s a big player on the form he showed early last campaign.
DEVOIRS CHOICE - 7.35 Yarmouth
He looks to have been brought along with handicaps in mind and DEVOIRS CHOICE can make a winning start in the sphere.
Ed Walker’s charge has as opening mark of 76 after three qualifying runs and the way he shaped behind Cynosure at Lingfield last time suggested there’s more to come.
HARTUR D’OUDAIRIES - 7.50 Kelso
He’s progressed with every run for the Brian Ellison team and HARTUR D’OUDAIRIES looks ready to open his account for them.
He conceded first run to Mack The Man when second at Musselburgh last time and this testing track will play more to his strengths.
