Jim Crowley's great 2020 continued as Nazeef landed another Group One. Recap the action from at home and abroad with our live racing blog.

All times BST, please refresh for updates

1704: A taste of jumping action on a day that felt very much like winter for many.

The focus is still very much on the Flat season though and the end of term highlights come up in quite quick succession at this time of year.

Tomorrow is all about the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and we'll be blogging live throughout the day. I hope you'll be able to join us as we follow the action and, potentially, hopefully, see Enable sign off in the best possible fashion.

1658: Easy Game leads by half a dozen lengths at Gowran Park from Paloma Blue.

They've got a circuit to run.

Mistakes from Peregrine Run and The Storyteller in rear; four fences to jump and little change in the order but the first four are tightly bunched.

Three of them made mistakes at the second last where Hardline fell but Easy Game recovered well and found plenty to run out a convincing winner from The Storyteller.

1657: Two distinct groups at Redcar and the far side were about half a furlong ahead where Al Erayg led them back in a first time tongue tie.

Barossa Red was nearside, hey ho.

1649: There does appear to have been some money for Barossa Red in the next at Redcar which is encouraging for his supporters, or me at least.

He's into 6/1 with only 5/2 jolly John Locke ahead of him in the betting.

Apparently John Locke was known as the 'Father of Liberalism'. I wonder what he'd make of today's current affairs?

I don't suppose his namesake, a gelded son of Mastercraftsman, minds much either way.

Easy Game is the 5/4 favourite for the Grade Two Chase at Gowran; they're just leaving the paddock in Ireland, hopefully we won't have a clash.

1646: The action extends into the evening courtesy of the card at Wolverhampton.

The first is due off at 1650 while the highlight is the 0-95 handicap at 1930.

The racing has drawn to a close at Tipperary where 7/2 shot Make A Promise takes the spoils, leading home the gambled on Blue Umbrella who lands the each-way money.

1643: The last at Tipperary is fast approaching and Blue Umbrella would be a suitably named winner, she is 16/1 from 25s and has a fair bit of experience which may help in these conditions.

1636: That's all from Newmarket where we saw some smart performances from two John Gosden runners in particular in Nazeef and Existent.

The latter has been quoted at 33/1 for the 2000 Guineas while Nazeef could have the Queen Anne as an early season target for 2021.

I couldn't see any prices for that race but there are odds chalked up for this year's Champion Stakes at Ascot and the Cirrus Des Aigles comparisons could be drawn with Skalleti whose connections are considering a trip to the UK. The grey is 14/1 with Paddy Power and Betfair Sportsbook with Sky Bet more impressed at 12s.

Nazeef is also priced up for Champions Day in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes where she is a best of 12/1 and a shade longer than The Revenant who can be backed at 10/1 with Sky Bet.

1633: They've gone without favourite Dream World who refused to enter the stalls.

Rule 4 ahoy.

The pot goes to Hunni.

She kept finding for Georgia Dobie and, eventually, was pulling away from the gallant Areehaa.

1627: The in-form Ben Lilly strikes again at Redcar.

For the finale at Newmarket we've got four 4/1 favourites in a field of eight!

Good luck if you've got a strong fancy and all but that sort of betting smells danger.

Having said that, I do recall seeing Dream World put up in today's punting guide so I'll be cheering on Michael Appleby's mare.

1620: There's going to be a clash with Gowran due to the delay.

I haven't paid much mind to the Irish venue today but it would be remiss not to mention the Grade Two PWC Champion Chase at 1655 which sees Easy Game and The Storyteller lining up alongside Hardline and Paloma Blue.

There are some old favourites in there despite the small field.

1614: It's not quite the same as the Cadran but there's a staying contest at Redcar where Bolder Bob has been withdrawn after getting loose.

There's some added interest to the race in the form of Cornerstone Lad who, of course, beat Buveur d'Air in the Fighting Fifth last year. Conditions here may not be too far away from winter jumping ground.

The one to beat, though, is Ben Lilly, winner of his last three races and a son of the aforementioned Gleneagles.

There was a long distance TV shot off several people walking the course in the gloaming. I'm assuming that was at Redcar and hoping that it's not officials checking the state of the ground.

Runners still circling behind the stalls.

It's Bolder Bob who is still the cause of the delay as he's still running free.

1608: The two and a half mile Prix du Cadran saw the field strung out like four mile chasers but there was a thrilling finish with Princess Zoe nailing rank outsider Alkuin in the final strides.

That's a first Group One win for 5lb claimer Joey Sheridan and a day that he won't forget in a hurry.

Marvellous stuff.

1558: It was worth the wait as Existent routs the opposition in fine fashion.

Hugely encouraging runs from Bill Peyto and Auria in (a long way) behind.

The jockeys have been calling the ground heavy at Newmarket but that didn't stop the Kingman colt who looks 'a stakes performer in the making' according to both Dixon and Nick Luck on Racing TV.

1554: Bill Peyto caught Chris Dixon's eye in the paddock but believes he could be a longer term project and that's reflected in his 18/1 price.

Existent is proving a little easy to back and he's out to 5/2, leaving Fabrizio as the market leader.

Apparently Gleneagles' progeny stats on soft ground are remarkably strong. A fact to bear in mind over the coming weeks perhaps.

He's represented by Balearic.

1551: Godolphin have sent out a debut winner already at Newmarket and it will be interesting to see how their Frankel colt Fabrizio goes in the next.

Among his more interesting opponents is Existent who has been off since finishing down the field in the Coventry Stakes way back in June.

I can't think of many famous Fabrizios off the top of my head, maybe he was named after this one?

Maybe William Buick will mimic the celebration?

1545: Victory at Redcar goes to Lullaby Moon.

She and Zamaani had it between them from a long way out (drawn in stalls 2 & 4!) and it was the 9/2 favourite who made the most of the weight that she received in the closing stages.

They were clear of Mamba Wamba who was, in turn, clear of the remainder.

1539: It's been a good day for previous winners at ParisLongchamp and we've still got another to go at around 1600 when Call The Wind lines up in the Prix du Cadran but Tony Mullins is hoping to poop the party with Princess Zoe.

1535: Not long to wait for Redcar's feature, the Two-Year-Old Trophy.

Lullaby Moon may not be ideally drawn in stall four but perhaps that won't matter too much with a great deal of dead wood in the field.

Fellow filly Spright could be a little better drawn and not too far away from her is Tinochio. He's not among the leading contenders but he did run well to finish a relatively close up fourth behind the smart Happy Romance in the Super Sprint at Newbury. He was beaten further by that rival last time but has been gelded since and maybe that operation will help to put him back on the right track.

I wouldn't want to see him start slowly again though.

His stablemate Uncle Jumbo is among the best backed in the field but he has to carry more weight than winners of this race usually manage.

1529: It's a hat-trick for Urban Artist.

Ice Sprite had a good crack at gaining revenge for her Goodwood defeat but the eventual winner kept on well with the rail to help and won readily enough under the Champion Jockey.

There's a winning favourite in France, too, as The Revenant gets the job done at ParisLongchamp. That could have been an expensive few minutes for the layers.

1522: Back to today and Urban Artist is proving popular at Newmarket while The Revenant will shortly bid to follow in the steps of Skalleti in winning the same race at ParisLongchamp in consecutive seasons.

1517: Timely words from Gosden with many happy to oppose Enable last year on account of the conditions and it could be that many will do so again.

Is there an opponent as talented as Waldgeist among the opposition though?

Some say not.

1514: John Gosden on Nazeef : "She handled this ground today and Jim (Crowley) said after two furlongs he was alright. In France she was sliding everywhere.

"She showed great courage. I thought she asserted well in the last 50 yards.

"We kept her in training with the idea of winning a Listed race which she did straightaway. She's pretty amazing."

The Queen Anne is mooted as a possible target for next season.

Gosden on Enable ahead of her historic Arc bid: "We do know the ground is not her favourite, we understand that, and if something relishes it more than her so be it.

"Frankie has just called me and said 'pretty desperate ground'. If Stradivarius handles the ground, he'll run a big race."

1508: It's a quickfire double for the Crisfords and a double on the day for Jack Mitchell as Ostilio makes all.

The writing was on the wall from a long way out for My Oberon who never landed a glove on the principals.

Vale Of Kent was second with the admirable and progressive Brunch in third.

1503: The Listed Racing TV EBF Stallions Guisborough Stakes is up next from Redcar and appears to represent a fine opportunity for My Oberon and I don't think there's a great deal to quibble about with his price of 11/8 either.

They're at the start at Redcar and one of his main rivals is Ostilio who is trained by Simon and Ed Crisford who have just been on the mark at ParisLongchamp.

1453: Nazeef bounces back to beat Half Light and Cloak Of Spirits.

It's a second Group One win for the daughter of Invincible Spirit and she continues the fine season of Jim Crowley and owner Hamdan al Maktoum.

I don't know if you could go as far as to say it was a hard luck story but Champers Elysees has had a horror run.

She looked to be travelling quite strongly for Colin Keane but he had to shift left and then left again in order to get daylight for a run (and possibly to race near the perceived principals in the finish) and she couldn't pick up anywhere near quickly enough to reel in the leaders.

1450: There's scope for an each-way play if that's your thing, given the front two dominate the betting but I'm struggling to find a filly I like.

Perhaps the front-running Guineas second Cloak of Spirits?

There is support at odds for Feliciana de Vega though, so maybe she's the one?

We're almost set.

1444: In her focus on Enable (click on the image to read), Cassie Tully highlighted the fine record of Nathaniel with his daughters, nine of his eleven Group winners are fillies.

He's represented here by Lady Bowthorpe.

Enable during her September Stakes victory on Saturday

1438: The Sun Chariot also features the first three home from the Falmouth Stakes where they were covered by the proverbial blanket but the winner, Nazeef, has proved a touch disappointing subsequently and it's the one-two from the Matron Stakes that head the market.

I'm firmly with Champers Elysees for better or for worse.

Sean Levey was interviewed on ITV Racing and is concerned about the ground for Billesdon Brook but she does handle the track which, according to Levey, a lot of horses don't.

1433: The UK highlight is the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes, a Group One that French raiders have excelled in.

Half Light attempts to fly the flag for France with William Buick taking the ride on the Shamardal filly who shouldn't have any problems with underfoot conditions.

There's a 12/1 winner at Redcar where Motahassen kept on finding to win reasonably comfortably from El Jefe.

1430: Current Option and Laughifuwant pass the line together at Tipperary with Albigna never involved.

The former may just have got up and has now been confirmed as the winner.

More 0-70 action from Redcar where El Jefe heads the betting.

1426: Wonderful Tonight finished fifth in the Prix Vermeille last time and the second from that contest, beaten favourite Raabihah, is among the challengers to Enable tomorrow.

The Vermeille form received a further boost with eighth home Valia winning earlier this afternoon at ParisLongchamp.

Food for thought.

1418: They're running at both venues.

Iconic Choice denies Be More at Newmarket.

Should she have run in the Arc?

Wonderful Tonight denies a wandering Pista in Paris.

A big victory for David Menuisier and Tony Piccone.

A big moment coming up for Albigna in Tipperary as she's been undeniably disappointing this season despite reportedly displaying all of her talent at home.

1415: I need more TVs!

I've just switched over to ParisLongchamp and coverage of the Qatar Prix de Royallieu where Pista is favourite ahead of Manuela de Vega.

This is another favourite that appears to hold an excellent chance and her stablemate ran a fine race in the preceding contest.

David Menuisier's Wonderful Night, briefly touted as an Arc possible, is another leading market fancy and there are three co-favourites as the gates open.

1413: Kaleidoscopic is 11/2 from 9s which is encouraging.

Just the small matter of winning the race now....

1407: A decent fillies' handicap up soon at Newmarket where Moonlight In Paris is a well supported 94 favourite.

Four non-runners leave a dead eight for each-way players and I thought it might be worth taking a chance with Kaleidoscopic who won quite impressively at Sandown.

She's not been hit too hard by the handicapper for that success and she has plenty of soft ground influences in her pedigree.

James Doyle says they are on a fact-finding mission with Oti Ma Boati who is tackling a new trip. He's hoping they don't go too fast to give her a better chance of seeing the race out but he says 'we're hopeful'.

With Ascot's abandonment, there's only one Value Bet selection left and that's Be More who lines up here.

1403: It's taken a while but I've tracked down the result of that Group One in Germany, could it be an Arc omen?

Mark Johnston ran Communique in that contest and saddles Sky Defender in a Group Three later on the card.

1358: It's not often a 0-70 handicap is run under the gaze of the TV cameras but Blistering Barney has enjoyed his day in the sun in winning division one of the Market Cross Jewellers Handicap.

It was fairly slow motion stuff.

1352: Another favourite has been turned over as Sweet Gardenia springs a surprise in the Listed Coolmore Churchill Stakes, finding plenty when challenged by the smooth travelling jolly Ontario.

The going at Redcar has now officially been changed to soft all round. No surprises there.

1345: Just Frank takes a big pot for Les Eyre, racing in isolation on the far side of the track.

Gamble landed as the Thirsk winner was reportedly well supported just before the off.

Second was Gift List with Perotto third.

1:15:60 the winning time which was 5.9 seconds above standard.

1342: Raging Storm blew himself out in Paris and was ignored by the rest of the field who gradually picked up the runaway leader in the straight.

Patrick Sarsfield was the first to hit the front but he was cheekily picked up by Skalleti who won cosily despite meeting with a little traffic.

1335: Making their way down to the start in France and they should be doing the same at Newmarket for the sales race where The Mighty Gurkha is bidding to land a reasonably valuable pot in a race which features morning market mover Fairy Dust.

Hollie Doyle is hopeful that The Mighty Gurkha will handle the ground but this is the first time that he's raced under these conditions.

There have been multiple winners of the Prix Dollar in the past, most notably Cirrus Des Aigles.

Qatar Prix Dollar - Cirrus des Aigles

1329: The Qatar Prix Dollar is up soon from ParisLongchamp where last year's winner Skalleti (who beat Sottsass last time) heads the betting at 10/11.

Joseph O'Brien and Frankie Dettori team up with Patrick Sarsfield.

Ocean Atlantique hasn't been sighted since finishing down the field in the French Derby but he was sent off at a relatively short price at Chantilly and it would be no great surprise to see Andre Fabre's runner bounce back.

1326: The field at Redcar raced down the centre of the track but edged more towards the stands' side if anything where Victim finished with a flourish to force a photo with Le Cheval Rapide. Emperor Supreme was third.

Victim has been confirmed the winner and was returned at 9/2.

He was brought all the way across the track by Jack Mitchell from stall five.

That gamble on Candace went south but it did continue as she was returned the 4/1 favourite; a name to note next time perhaps.

1320: It's raining steadily at Redcar, as it is in most places across the country, and conditions are going to become more and more testing.

Garbage - Only Happy When It Rains (official music video) with lyrics

1317: They're racing in the second at Tipperary but we're still awaiting the first from Redcar with the revised race times meaning that race is due off at 1320 and not 1310.

Maker Of Kings wins for Ger Lyons in Ireland.

Victim heads the betting at Redcar where Candace is 11/1 from 15/2 on debut for Richard Hannon, as a daughter of Dutch Art you'd hope the soft ground wouldn't be an issue but the stable's youngsters do tend to improve from their debuts.

1309: Meritorious didn't beat a rival on debut but was much better here, only reeled in close home by favourite Mystical Dawn who wins for Godolphin in a race his owners have won with some smart horses in the past, including Encke.

He didn't win by far but was learning all the time and was given a considerate ride by William Buick.

Bolshoi Ballet was similarly green and was doing all of his best work in the closing stages.

The winning time was 1:44:55.

1306: Christophe Soumillon has described conditions at ParisLongchamp as the 'slowest he's ever ridden on' at the track.

Fair to say that must be really testing.

1300: An Aidan O'Brien trained newcomer won the first from Tipperary, can a stablemate follow suit at Newmarket?

The jockeys are heading out onto the Rowley Mile where it is 'hammering down' and there is some support for O'Brien's Bolshoi Ballet but it's the Godolphin newcomer Mystical Dawn who currently shades favouritism.

1257: I couldn't put Hoppegarten on a map but the course does host Group One action this afternoon and Mark Johnston has sent Communique over for the Grosser Preis von Berlin; Franny Norton takes the ride.

It's a race that could have some bearing on the Arc as favourite Torquator Tasso was second to In Swoop in the German Derby in July and a big run from him would advertise the latter's chance tomorrow.

Celebration time as Sottsass wins the Prix du Jockey Club
Click on the image for our Arc de Triomphe horse by horse guide

1250: It looked hard work at Tipperary but that didn't bother newcomer Carlisle Bay who made practically all to collect for Aidan O'Brien.

Leading Light is a former winner of this race which has been won by some smart horses over the years so perhaps this Galileo colt may be able to go on to bigger and better things.

Magic Carousel was second at a huge price (400/1) while Cleveland was first off the bridle but made notable late gains.

1245: The sun is shining at Tipperary where Eternal Presence is favourite ahead of Aidan O'Brien's Cleveland in this 9 furlong maiden.

Both horses made their debut on heavy ground so shouldn't be unduly troubled by underfoot conditions.

There's some notable each-way money for Druk who has also had just the one run. Nearly all set.

1240: No joy for Frankie Dettori in Paris as Christophe Soumillon and Valia lead home Nemean Lion in the Qatar Prix Chaudenay.

The winner was returned at 4/1 and scored in a time that was 10 seconds slower than last year's renewal which was, itself, run on fairly testing ground.

1235: Not for the first time, they're going to be off several minutes behind time in Paris where Max Vega is still holding on to favouritism.

It won't be too long before we're off at Tipperary and we'll shortly have plenty of action to enjoy from around Europe.

1230: The going is 4.8 (very soft) in France today.

The course for the Arc is currently less testing at 4.6 and is expected to dry out a little more.

1226: They're in the paddock for the first at ParisLongchamp (I could tire of typing that quite quickly, it's ridiculous isn't it?) for this 15 furlong Group Two in which Andre Fabre has a strong record.

Laurent Barbarin reports on Sky Sports Racing that the field all look well with no particular standout.

1224: That's certainly not the case with the Sun Chariot Stakes but I can't see a particularly good reason for taking on Champers Elysees unless you just don't fancy the price.

She has come from off the pace the last twice and that's not always the easiest tactic to employ at Newmarket so that is a potential negative but she's raced prominently in lower grade races prior to that so I'm not too concerned on that front.

She was very impressive in beating Peaceful at Leopardstown and I can't see any reason why the runner-up would reverse the form (other than the aforementioned tactics) as I thought she enjoyed the run of the race the last day.

1218: The Two-Year-Old Trophy isn't the only sales race today with the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes taking place at Newmarket. It has quite a strong recent history with Under The Stars and Accidental Agent on the roll of honour.

This renewal looks well up to scratch with Group Three winner The Mighty Gurkha (opposed by the team in the Punting Guide) topping the weights but there don't appear to be too many obvious viable alternatives.

1202: I'm interested to see which way Barossa Red goes in the betting on debut for the Kublers.

He flattered to deceive for Andrew Balding, failing to live up to market expectations after winning at Haydock last year, but perhaps a change of scenery will do the trick. It's not as if he was running badly anyway and I think he's a live each-way player with conditions to suit.

1153: The following Two-Year-Old Trophy usually attracts plenty of runners but it pays to concentrate on the top of the market.

The longest priced winner in recent years was 12/1 chance Wick Powell but even then, there were only a handful of runners shorter than him in the betting.

It often pays to be handy and only recent winner has carried more than 8-12 which isn't great news for Uncle Jumbo so perhaps on each-way play on Shark Two One might be the way to go? I'm still wavering and I'm not sure I'm greatly encouraged by Richard Fahey's column (click on the image below to read).

Shark Two One wins narrowly under Colin Keane at Leopardstown
Shark Two One wins narrowly under Colin Keane at Leopardstown

1148: I've no idea where William Haggas will be in attendance today but he looks to have a great chance of saddling a winner at Redcar with My Oberon.

He is favourite and deservedly so in this six runner race. He's run well in a pair of Group Threes the last twice and for all that he's up against some respected runners for the grade, it will be disappointing if he can't win this Listed prize before having his sights raised again. This looks a really good opportunity.

1143: There are a couple of short-priced favourites at ParisLongchamp with The Revenant bidding to win back-to-back renewals of the Daniel Wildenstein and Cadran regular Call The Wind strong at the head of their markets.

Skalleti is another who is also bidding to repeat last year's success so there could be a strong sense of déjà vu in France.

I think there's little doubt that from a British and Irish perspective, the Group One Qatar Prix de Royallieu is the most interesting heat and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Monica Sheriff run a big race returned to a softer surface but soft ground won't inconvenience Pista either and Joseph O'Brien's runner has been seriously progressive.

It would be a nice Group One winner for Shane Cross even if the race doesn't carry the same prestige as the St Leger.

1127: The Qatar Prix Chaudenay is due off in an hour's time and Frankie Dettori will be hoping for the perfect start to his French trip as he rides Max Vega for Ralph Beckett and she sets the standard in this Group Two.

Despite the vagaries of the weather, it should still be a thrilling weekend in Paris and Oli Bell caught up with Olivier Peslier to look ahead to the action (above).

1113: The rain has already had a large impact on today's racing and that's only going to increase you'd imagine with plenty of the wet stuff falling in Paris as well as across the UK.

I remember reading an interview with Mazzy Star - Hope Sandoval and the late Dave Roback - many years ago with a highlighted quote of 'we know how to appreciate a rainy day' and I'm sure we'll be able to glean some positives from the day.

Apropos of nothing (no, not Woody Allen's memoir), here's some Mazzy Star...

Mazzy Star - Fade Into You - 10/2/1994 - Shoreline Amphitheatre (Official)

1105: You could say that Champers Elysees' career has benefited from a sprinkling of Fairy Dust and a runner bearing that name has been one of the best backed horses of the day with Paddy Power and Sky Bet.

1100: Good morning and welcome to the live racing blog.

It's rather a shame that we've lost Ascot but it is good news for Redcar whose biggest raceday of the year will benefit from increased exposure in front of the ITV Racing cameras.

There will also be action, of course, from Newmarket where the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes is the feature.

Champers Elysees is the one to beat as she bids to write another chapter in a remarkable story. Unsold at the sales after failing to satisfy buyers, she has won all four starts this season and was sold privately after winning the Matron Stakes.

Her new owner, Mr Teruya Yoshida, supplemented his new purchase for this race and will be hoping that his faith will be rewarded.
