There was a solitary winner of Saturday's £100,000 Sportinglife Pick7

There was a solitary winner of Saturday's Sportinglife Pick 7 competition who has scooped the jackpot of £100,000.

The event went down to the final leg with four players still in with a chance of running off with the top prize but the victory of Mininggold (7/2) under Paul Mulrennan for trainer Michael Dods ensured a sole player scooped all the loot - James Bridger.

"I was having a barbecue and I knew I was through the first leg so I kept popping in and out to see how the results were going. I knew I was getting close," the delighted winner revealed.

"I am absolutely thrilled and it is still sinking in. I play every week but have not been anywhere near getting all seven winners recently."

Plenty of participants marched through the opening leg as Masar (11/8 favourite) took the Solario Stakes at Sandown Park but the field was thinned down somewhat as Sportinglife columnist Richard Fahey's Penwortham under Paddy Mathers hit the mark in the next leg at 8/1 up at Chester.

Aljazzi (9/2) and Take Cover (3/1) were put up by Sportinglife contributors Simon Holt and Oli Bell respectively at Sandown and Beverley, while Fahey and Mathers completed a double as the heavily-backed Powerallied (5/1) swooped up the Roodee straight.

Our very own Matt Brocklebank suggested Thundering Blue (11/2) was the one to be on back at Sandown and that left a nail-biting conclusion with a quartet of players still alive heading to the final leg back at Beverley.

Two players pinned their hopes on Sandra's Secret and one on Grandad's World but it was Mininggold who came with a powerful late burst to score decisively and secure our winner a life-changing pot of cash.

Sky Bet's Racing PR Manager Michael Shinners said: "There were no real shock results but it is still a fabulous achievement by James.

"It turned out that Sportinglife columnist Richard Fahey played a big part in the success with those winners in legs two and five at Chester."

The next Pick 7 game is on Monday and entries are open right now.
