The five-year-old was only beaten just over a length into fourth behind The Right Man over six furlongs.
Appleby said: "He was my main hope on Dubai World Cup night, but unfortunately the rain turned up and he can't pick up well on that ground. He ran a good race though.
"He will be aimed at the Palace House Stakes now if the ground is right as last year he was just touched off in the race.
"He always runs a creditable race and if you roll the dice enough times, hopefully one day a good race will play into his hands."
Emotionless, who finally showed glimpses of his exciting juvenile form at the Carnival, is due to step up in trip on his return to England.
"The step up in trip has suited him and the form of the two horses he finished behind (Prize Money and Postponed) stacks up well and it is rock solid form," said Appleby.
"We will take a look at the John Porter as last time was his most impressive run for a while and it would be nice to get his head back in front again.
"By dropping him down in class, hopefully we can the build him back up again."
Oaks fifth Skiffle, who only ran once after Epsom when third in the Snow Fairy Stakes, is one of Godolphin's big hopes for the summer.
Appleby said: "She is back in full training and like most Dubawi's, going from three to four she looks great. The plan for her is looking towards the summer and her main target this year will be the Lancashire Oaks.
"We could possibly have a look at starting her off in the Middleton, but there are a good few options. There are Listed races at Goodwood and Ayr and options in France. She was another that went to Huntingdon recently for a gallop.
"The only thing with her is she wouldn't want cut in the ground, she is better on a sounder surface."
