Leading American filly Newspaperofrecord will not contest the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot next month.
Chad Brown's filly was a wide-margin winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf last year, rounding out an unbeaten two-year-old campaign, and connections had been eager to go for Group One glory in Berkshire.
However, Newspaperofrecord suffered a shock defeat on her return in a Grade Three event at Churchill Downs earlier this month, with Brown believing his charge was short of fitness.
He is now planning to head to Belmont Park on June 6 for the Wonder Again Stakes, with the trainer having told officials at Ascot he will be scratching his Lope De Vega filly from the Coronation, for which she had been as low as 3-1 favourite.
Nick Smith, Ascot's director of racing and communications, told www.attheraces.com: "It was good of Chad Brown to show so much enthusiasm and commitment to the project from her win in the Breeders' Cup and to see that backed up with an entry in the Coronation Stakes.
"It's very disappointing for all that the prep race didn't give them the confidence to carry on."
Smith added: "The NYRA (New York Racing Association) have also added the lucrative new Turf Tiara to their programme, and it's understandable that this has appeal to the top US turf horses."
