Musselburgh granted temporary licence by British Horseracing Authority

The British Horseracing Authority has announced that Musselburgh has been granted a temporary licence until May 5.

The previous licence expired earlier this month following several meetings between East Lothian Council and Lothians Racing Syndicate, who currently run the course and failed to reach a solution in finding a way forward.

The BHA rejected the council's wish to begin running the course through a committee made up of four council members and two racing experts, which meant the Edinburgh track was unable to stage meetings unless a solution was found.

Racing's ruling body has, though, now issued another temporary licence to ensure next week's two-day fixture can go ahead.

A statement read: "The BHA board now considers it appropriate in the interests of the racecourse and the wider sport for a temporary licence to be issued.

"The temporary licence means that the racecourse's fixtures which are programmed for May 3 and 4 can go ahead as scheduled."

The BHA said an update regarding the state of Musselburgh's racecourse licence beyond May 5 will be issued in due course.
