Hughie Morrison maps out targets for Marmelo

Hughie Morrison has not ruled out a tilt at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe for Marmelo following an outing in the Comer Group International Irish St Leger.

The East Ilsey handler is leaning towards stepping the four-year-old up to Group One company for the first time in his career at the Curragh on September 10 for the 14-furlong prize.

The son of Duke Of Marmalade claimed his second Pattern-race success this season when running out the winner of a Group Two contest at Deauville.

Morrison said: "He has been a cracking horse. He had his problems when he came to us, but they have cleared up. We have never put any pressure on him, as he is a big horse and we have been quite careful and it has now paid dividends.

"I fancied him to beat my other runner, Nearly Caught. If he stays in one piece there is the Irish St Leger and if I am happy with him, he will probably go for that.

"The owners love the romance of having a runner in the Arc and who can blame them? It might be difficult to get him ready to do both the Irish St Leger and the Arc, though."
