Man On The Spot previews Saturday's Pick 7 races

Our resident tipster Man On The Spot previews the races that comprise Saturday's free to play £100,000 Pick 7 game.

2.25 Doncaster Betway Spring Mile Handicap

Only two of the last eight winners of this have started at single figure odds. Four-year-olds are the most successful age group but the effect of the draw here in recent years has dissipated. Nimr won the Lincoln Trial at Wolverhampton three weeks ago with Holiday Magic third and Examiner fourth - he’s only a pound higher switching back to Turf. Sacred Act goes well fresh and won his only start last year. Another Touch beat Sir Roderic at Newmarket last summer and ended the campaign with an excellent second at York. Raising Sand and Father Bertie also did well last year and Mount Tahan may still be well handicapped. Swift Emperor won at Newcastle last month but now races off a career-high mark. It’s rare to see a Sir Michael Stoute runner out this early so the Newmarket maestro must really fancy the chances of BALLET CONCERTO, who made giant strides last summer after taking a Kempton maiden and could be up to winning a pattern race this year.

2.40 Kempton Betfred 'Like Us On Facebook' Handicap

Go Far won in this grade at Wolverhampton last time and should confirm running with Judicial. Kasbah also scored at this level when successful at Lingfield in January though has been beaten off higher marks since and preference is for top weight JUSTICE GOOD. The latter struggled up against tougher opposition in the Listed Cleves Stakes last time but won over track and trip in November and has the beating of Dougan and Hakam in this. Both Dutch Golden Age and Memories Galore won lower grade sprints over the winter but have something to prove off their current marks.

3.00 Doncaster Betway Doncaster Mile Stakes

Tullius won this in 2015 while Custom Cut was third last year behind Belardo. The latter was trained by Roger Varian, who runs Dawn Of Hope this year. He was successful over a mile on his reappearance at Ascot and later won a Listed race on the all-weather at Deauville. STORMY ANTARCTIC won the Craven Stakes on his return to action last year and was later second in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly. This represents a significant drop in class and Ed Walker’s colt may prove too strong for the Godolphin pair Cymric and Toscanini, though Crazy Horse gives the impression he could have more to offer this term and Frankie’s mount looks a better bet than disappointing stablemate Castle Harbour. Kool Kompany looks held by Crazy Horse on their run together at Salisbury in October.

3.15 Kempton Betfred 'Home Of Goals Galore' Rosebery Handicap

Prince Of Arran finished ahead of 2015 winner Noble Gift when winning over 1m4f here in November but has another hike in the weights to contend with today. Final is holding his form well but was second to last year’s runner-up Dutch Uncle at Wolverhampton in February. The former’s stablemate Sennockian Star has also been in decent form but has a bit to find on latest running with GAWDAWPALIN. The latter was second in this grade at Lingfield last week on his first start since November and should make another bold bid. Wild Hacked was progressive last year but General Hazard is upped in class bidding for a hat-trick and Big Country only won a maiden race at Wolverhampton last time albeit by seven lengths.

3.35 Doncaster Betway Lincoln

Battle Of Marathon and Emell were third and sixth respectively last year when both were drawn high. Gabrial won this tough handicap in 2015 but has only scored once since and is still 8lb higher. Third Time Lucky was fourth in last year’s Cambridgeshire and then close behind Yuften at Ascot. The pair meet on the same terms today, however, and that form also brings several of these into calculations. Third Time Lucky is one of five Richard Fahey runners and Paul Hanagan rides Dolphin Vista, who may see out the trip better than Heaven's Guest and Withernsea but would need the rains to arrive. Bravery generally raced over further in Ireland but David O’Meara wouldn’t be running him in this if he didn’t think he had the speed to cope. DONNCHA, second in last year’s Spring Mile, was desperately unlucky not to win a big handicap last year. He’s still getting little help from the handicapper but could have the right man on board today in Jamie Spencer as he’s a horse that needs to be held up until the last possible minute. Top Notch Tonto has had a pipe-opener and has a talented 7lb claimer on board so can’t be ruled out and he’s preferred to Oh This Is Us, who has been racing at Meydan but did win here last season.

3.50 Kempton Betfred Lotto Maiden Fillies' Stakes

Arabian Hope has her first start since last May when a modest fourth at Newmarket while Getna failed to show any improvement when occupying the same finishing position at Wolverhampton. Happy Escape makes a quick reappearance having failed to threaten at Lingfield during the week but GLOBAL ALEXANDER (NAP) just missed out when second over course and distance on her recent debut and is fancied to go one better in this. Foxy Lass represents an in-form yard and is preferred to Manaahil and Coya of the newcomers.

4.10 Doncaster Betway Brocklesby Conditions Stakes (Plus 10) (Div 1)

This used to be the race that kicked off the Turf Flat season but it’s been demoted down the order and splits this year due to a bumper entry. David Evans usually has his two-year-olds well forward and while an extra furlong or two might suit LAST PAGE in time it would be no surprise if the Pastoral Pursuits gelding was good enough to make a winning start. Almane’s half-brother Frank The Barber took 18 attempts to get off the mark and he’s best on the all-weather but the Orientor colt Primo's Comet is quite speedily bred and could be interesting. Rocket Man Dan cost 37,000 euros as a foal but changed hands for only 12,000 euros as a yearling so is probably best watched.
