Free horse racing betting tips: Man On The Spot's betting preview and selections for Newmarket and York

Our resident tipster Man On The Spot previews the races from Newmarket and York that will be shown live on ITV Racing on Friday.

13:50 Newmarket - Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes

SOUND AND SILENCE is penalised for winning a Group 3 sprint in France last month but has already beaten several of these including runner-up Abel Handy at York in August. The Godolphin colt also got the better of To Wafij and Angel Force on the Knavesmire and looks the one to beat on that form. Mokaatil failed to land the odds on the all-weather earlier but made no mistake in a maiden at Ripon while Ballydoyle’s Battle Of Jericho came up just short over 7f in Listed company at Dundalk and drops down to the minimum trip for the first time. Pursuing The Dream won a Listed race in France earlier but struggled in the Flying Childers at Doncaster last month and the remainder have even more to find.

14:25 Newmarket - Godolphin Lifetime Care Oh So Sharp Stakes

DARK ROSE ANGEL was beaten only a head by Laurens in the Group 2 May Hill at Doncaster last month and has strong claims on collateral form. She finished in front of Nyaleti on that occasion and the latter subsequently finished ahead of third-placed Gavota in the Rockfel over track and trip. Roger Charlton’s filly also beat Hikmaa, Elizabeth Bennet and Butterscotch here while Anna Nerium got the better of Special Purpose and One Minute to land a Group 3 at Salisbury. I Can Fly made a winning start in maiden company at Dundalk for Aidan O’Brien and makes most appeal of those stepping up in class including Expressiy, Herecomesthesun and Altyn Orda.

14:45 York - unibet.co.uk Handicap

Danny Tudhope has chosen Bravery over Mon Beau Visage and Steel Train with the four-year-old having won the Lincoln back in April when 5lb higher. Zabeel Prince is two from two this year and easily the least exposed but he steps up a grade and is 10lb higher than when last successful at Yarmouth. Haydock third Just Hiss is preferred to stablemate One Word More, even though the latter was only beaten a neck by Zwayyan at Ascot last week. HIGHLAND COLORI beat Home Cummins here a year ago with Two For Two and One Word More outside of the placings. Andrew Balding's nine-year-old hasn't won since but has dropped 10lb in the ratings as a result and could be the pick of the weights again today.

15:00 Newmarket - Godolphin Stud And Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes

LIMATO looks to return to his very best having run well so far this year without reaching the heights of last season’s Group 1 winning form. He was beaten less than a length when fourth on unsuitably soft going in the Lennox at Goodwood last time and Henry Candy’s charge may just edge out Dabyah in this. The Fred Darling winner hasn’t raced since beaten in the Coronation Cup at Ascot by Winter but this is easier and she’s preferred to Group 3 winners Dutch Connection and Mix And Mingle. Massaat and Absolutely So would prefer some cut in the ground while Gifted Master has proved best over 6f so far. True Valour’s second at Leopardstown to Suedois is working out well and he’s preferred to compatriot Cougar Mountain.

15:35 Newmarket - bet365 Fillies' Mile

Aidan O’Brien bids for a fourth consecutive success in this and runs three today with Ryan Moore partnering Happily. The latter beat stablemates Magical and September with Muirin back in fourth to win the Moyglare at the Curragh last month and looks the one to beat on her more recent Group 1 success in France. Magical could only manage fourth at Chantilly last time when behind the Charlie Appleby-trained Wild Illusion. That should give the Godolphin handler a good line on the chances of MAGIC LILY, who returned an impressive winner of a maiden race over course and distance on her debut and may well be competitive at this level. The progressive Laurens finished ahead of Nyaleti when landing the May Hill at Doncaster and is preferred to stablemate Ellthea while Efaadah travels over from France and may improve further back on faster going today.

15:55 York - Unibet Handicap

A cracking contest with the weights headed by Face The Facts, who won a Listed race at Newmarket last month but may not be suited by the drop back in distance. Star Of The East came again to win at Haydock last month and Mark Johnston also runs recent Ascot winner Dominating. Gold Star steps up in trip but is a half-brother to stayer Winning Story and will make a bold bid to complete the hat-trick. Star Rock and Bolder Bob are also chasing a three-timer but Brimham Rocks has gone up in the weights again since beaten at Hamilton and looks held on collateral form. THE GRAND VISIR (NAP) was fifth in the Melrose here in August, which has already produced several subsequent winners, and that is possibly the best form on offer - the booking of Silvestre De Sousa hasn't harmed his chances.

16:10 Newmarket - bet365 Old Rowley Cup Handicap

This is wide-open but the handicapper may have the measure of those at the top of the weights including Hochfeld and the Godolphin duo First Nation and High End with the latter raised a further 5lb for finishing second at Yarmouth. Frankie Dettori partnered Crowned Eagle to success at Windsor earlier in the year but rides INTREPIDLY today. The latter is one of the least exposed and should be sharper for a recent outing at Kempton. Newcastle winner Humble Hero is another with scope while Melting Dew has gone close the last twice now but Torcello looks the more progressive having won by three lengths over track and trip last month. He’s penalised along with Koeman while last month’s winner at Ascot, Duke Of Bronte, is preferred to Arab Moon and Here And Now.
