Check out our race-by-race verdicts and nap selection for Monday's meeting at Fonner Park.
Race One
J Train finished a neck ahead of MR BIG SHOT over 4f here last month but David Anderson’s gelding has come out best on the two previous occasions on which they’ve met and can reassert authority over this extra quarter-mile. Leon’s Diamond, Mr Mon and Prince B look held on the form book and neither of the newcomers make much appeal on breeding.
Race Two
This looks wide-open but DREAMING TYPE is back over the trip at which he was successful in February so gets a tentative vote. Youngboy was successful over course and distance a little under two weeks ago but More Than Victory’s victory at Sam Houston came over 7f. Neither Red Majesty nor U Nameable Street figured in the race won by Perfect Line here last time but would have claims in this.
Race Three
Laine’s Peach is a 33-race maiden so her latest second, when just under a length ahead of Scotia Queen, should probably be taken with a pinch of salt. Gaby Vee appears to have two ways of running but Witts Data Link has placed twice at Sam Houston since the turn of the year and was ahead of a subsequent winner on the latter occasion. EBONY NIGHTS’ record, which reads 0-29, is hardly a recommendation but Mark Hibdon’s mare has generally run in better races than this and a return to her best could finally see her get her head in front.
Race Four
Langs Legend has been a little disappointing lately and a wide draw won’t help but he would have a chance on the pick of his form, including a third here in February when Dion was behind. Well Mannered looked to be coming to hand last month and rates a danger but Free Music has missed the break the last twice and a tardy start here could see his challenge ended before its begun. SPA SHACKALACKA (NAP) switches from Delta Downs having won three times last year. A break should have benefited Isai Gonzalaez’s gelding, who looks the one to beat.
Race Five
Second over this trip on his penultimate start, SHEPHERD’S PRIDE couldn’t quite keep up the gallop over a shade further last time but a rail draw today will aid his cause. Country Club Dinner hasn’t really fired since joining Gilbert Ecoffey and was behind Lonesome Highway last time, though did reverse running with Rulethenight from the time before. Cowboy Don won his penultimate start but didn’t fare as well next time when he couldn’t get to the front and he’s been done no favours by the draw.
Race Six
Held up off the pace, Ima Danger was an eye-catcher here last week and should now be approaching peak fitness. She’s entitled to be thereabouts in this grade and Atoka Girl has won her fair share down the years and take a further drop in class. Lingering Sally just failed to overhaul Cuckoo Kenia here last month, with True Allegiance behind, and also goes on the shortlist but ANWARA is just preferred. She is the form pick on her autumn form at Remington Park, though recent efforts have been disappointing.
Race Seven
Diesel’s Prize may need this having not seen competitive action since scoring at Columbus in August of last year. Trask was well out of his depth at Turfway Park in December and is another who lacks a recent outing but Hidden Gun kept on for pressure here last month and recent winner Green Card will be a threat to all if the outside stall doesn’t prove a disadvantage. CHARED was always struggling on his reappearance but he’ll strip fitter today. He was in good form on the track at this time last year and is the least exposed.
Race Eight
Chickes Done made a winning return to action over the trip last month and it would be no surprise to see a follow-up. Global Exchange beat recent winner Pretty Rich over 4f in February and had Blessings Noted behind when runner-up last month so shouldn’t be far away again. Danburite also holds Pretty Rich on the form book but ONEPRETTYTHING looked one to follow when overcoming a wide draw to score in convincing fashion at Mahong Valley last month. That was only her second career start and it came after a three-month break so there should be plenty more to come.
Race Nine
Shepherd’s Pride could give a boost to the form of Runarounddancing’s victory in February earlier on this evening’s card. Choir Director was fourth behind Beta Capo Song in a stronger claimer here last month and four lengths ahead of KING OF ANYTHING. However, that was over 4f and Jesse Compton’s seven-year-old is much more effective over this longer trip and will strip fitter today. Pierpoint has won his last two over shorter so can’t be ignored and Junkers also has a squeak back over arguably his best distance.
