Leading trainers at the corresponding meeting during the study period:

Race by race stats/facts/selections:

1.50 (10 furlong 3YO handicap):

Five renewals have slipped by since the second of two favourites won during this last decade. Eight of the relevant winners carried a maximum burden of nine stones and the pair which make most appeal form the ‘superior’ sector of the handicap from my viewpoint are Hold Sway and Monticello. The latter named raider hails from Mark Johnston’s yard which has snared this prize three times during the last eight years. Mark’s other runner in the contest is Morning Suit.

2.25 (‘Lillie Langtry’):

Five of the last six winners of this Group 3 event have scored at a top price of 6/1, though just two favourites contributed to the figures. With five four-year-olds have won during the last eight years, Dawn Horizon’s 14/1 quote attracts my each way attention from a value for money perspective against the more logical winner Endless Time.

3.00 (Richmond Stakes):

‘Team Hannon’ have won six of the last nine contests, albeit this year’s representative Etefaaq appears only to have place claims in another warm renewal of this Group 2 juvenile event. Soft ground winner Nebo is marginally preferred to Cardsharp though from what we have witnessed to date, Mark Johnston’s March foal will not go down without a fight.

3.35 (Nassau Stakes):

A long Standish Saturday event, the ‘Nassau’ has been decimated by non-runners overnight, possibly leaving the way clear for So Di Mar and Sobetsu to dominate at the business end of proceedings. Differing trends support the chances of both horses, with junior raider Sobetsu attempting to become the eighth three-year-old to win the race in the last eleven years. Conversely, John Gosden (So Mi Dar) has secured three of the last five contests. Nine of the last ten winners have scored at a top price off 11/2, statistics which include five successful market leaders.

4.10 (Seven furlong Nursery contest):

Mark Johnston has claimed two of the last three contests, having saddled the runner-up on the other occasion. Poet’s Prince and Poetic Steps appear to have the edge over stable companion Starlight Mystery this time around. Only two of the last nine winners have been returned in double figures which in the context of this competitive event, is a decent record.

4.45 (2YO Maiden for fillies):

Favourites of one description or another have won five of the last six renewals and though bookmakers are walking around with grins the size of Trundle Hill this week, Magical and Roulette look sure to pull clear of their rivals inside the furlong marker.

5.20 (Five furlong 3YO handicap):

Nine renewals have come and gone since the last market leader received the applause of a happy crowd when greeting the winner. Megan Lily stands out from the crowd by being the only soft ground winner in the finale.
