Mal Boyle: Saturday Stat Attack Ascot, Lingfield & more

Mal Boyle crunches the numbers ahead of Saturday's racing and he fancies Michael Bell to land the Victoria Cup.

Saturday Stat Attack

Saturday’s offering relates to trainers who have saddled the most winners during the last six years at the corresponding venues (unless stated):

ASCOT;

5 winners—John Gosden (6/1, 5/1, 4/1, 3/1 & 15/8*) – 2 runners today in the Victoria Cup at 4.00: Remarkable & Gm Hopkins

HAYDOCK:

3 winners—Evan Williams (25/1, 8/1 & 6/1) – 5 runners: Prime Venture (2.00), Court Minstrel & John Constable (3.10), Nansaroy (4.55) & De Faoithesdream (5.55)

3 winners—David Pipe (5/1, 4/1 & 7/2**) – 1 runner: Purple ‘N Gold (5.55)

LINGFIELD;

3 winners—Aidan O’Brien (5/1, 7/4* & Evens*) – 2 runners on the card: Pocketfullofdreams (1.55) & Sir John Lavery (2.30)

NOTTINGHAM;

No trainer has saddled more than two winners at Nottingham during the study period.

THIRSK;

5 winners—Alan Swinbank (8/1, 7/1, 7/1, 4/1 & 7/2*) – 3 outsiders today: Another Go (6.45), Little Miss Lola (7.15) & Last Chance Paddy (8.15)

Karen Tutty catches the eye with the trainer having saddled 20/1 & 16/1 winners down the years at this meeting – 5 runners today: Silver Bid (5.45), Under Approval & Novabridge (6.15) & Cool Strutter & Gaelic Wizard (8.45)

HEXHAM (Five year study – the 2012 meeting was abandoned);

5 winners—Donald McCain (7/2, 5/2, 4/6*, 4/11* & 1/4*) – 4 runners: Hit And Run (1.345), Pinch Of Ginger (2.20), Bourne (3.30) & Kiltormer (5.15)

WARWICK (Two year period – previous meetings were on the flat);

3 winners—Dan Skelton (7/2**, 11/8* & Evens*) – 2 runners: Blairs Cove (5.30) & Focaccia (6.00)

Aside from the horses listed above, Mal’s main selection on Saturday is Taurean Star in Ascot’s Victoria Cup at 4.00.

Michael Bell has saddled three of his last eight runners to winning effect, statistics which have produced 18 points of level stake profit.

Michael’s four-year-old represents the vintage which has snared five of the last nine renewals and providing stall seven does not prove to be on the wrong side of the course, Taurean Star can improve the ratio still further.

Placepot dividends that broke through the four figure barrier at the corresponding meetings during the last decade:

£4,085.30—Ascot (2009)

£1,551.00—Haydock (2015)

£1,375.30—Haydock (2011)

£1,366.50—Hexham (2007)

£1,043.30—Nottingham (2012)
