I don’t mind taking a chance on FONTANA ELLISSI in the BetWright Bangers N’Cash Handicap Hurdle at Lingfield.
This horse is lobbed in on his old form as he was beaten less than a length at Cheltenham off 118 six starts ago and he runs here off 105 with a 7lb claimer on board.
The caveat is he’s had two absences lasting more than a year each time since then but he had three quick runs at the start of the year and there was a glimmer of promise in his Ascot run.
Samuel Drinkwater makes the 300-mile round trip from his Strensham base for just the one runner on Sunday and he’s four from eight at Lingfield in the month of December.
GAZETTE BOURGEOISE – 13:15 Fakenham
GAZETTE BOURGEOISE has dropped to 1lb above her last winning mark for the Sky Bet Queen Boudica Series Qualifier Mares’ Handicap Chase at Fakenham.
Ben Case’s nine-year-old won off 102 by 12 lengths over the course and distance on New Year’s Day and runs off 103 here after five subsequent defeats.
She shaped encouragingly on her seasonal reappearance at Windsor, though, just looking done for fitness in the closing stages.
Dropped back in trip at a track she likes, she can go well under Ciaran Gethings.

MAGNA SAM - 14:08 Musselburgh (NAP)
HE KNOWS BETTER - 12:50 Huntingdon
Backing horses who fall first time out over fences isn't for everyone but HE KNOWS BETTER was still seemingly going well and looked certain to play a principal role in the finish before falling two-out at Haydock earlier in the month. He's likely to have learnt plenty from the experience and it was his first outing of any kind since May 2024 so he should also have benefitted fitness-wise. Raised 3lb and saddled with top weight here, he moves up to three miles for the first time and still has loads of untapped potential.
LATIN - 14:00 Lingfield
LATIN is operating at a low level but he's barely put a foot wrong since joining James Owen and looked to score with a little bit in hand when justifying even-money favourite at Southwell on Friday afternoon. He carries a 5lb penalty and drops in trip at Lingfield but seven furlongs holds no fear whatsoever and he's still able to sneak in at the top of this 0-55 handicap despite effectively rating from a mark of 59. The four-year-old might simply be too good for this lot.
AMERJEET - 17:30 Wolverhampton
Once rated 82, AMERJEET shaped with some encouragement from his falling mark of 57 on debut for Michael Herrington at Wolverhampton recently and could step up to win this contest as he's dropped another pound in the ratings. Billy Loughnane takes over in the saddle and his record for Herrington is excellent to this point, having had just eight rides and enjoyed two winners, on top of a second, third and a fourth.
