HAVANA LIGHTNING - 18:00 Newcastle
HAVANA LIGHTNING wasn't a factor in what proved to be a hot edition of the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot but, following a 58-day break, she resumed with an encouraging effort when sixth (of 13) in Listed company at Newbury. She now goes handicapping for the first time from a mark of 85 which is no gimme but looks workable based on her Yarmouth novice win back in May. The tongue-tie worn last time is retained and this track could easily suit as she's closely related to all-weather winners.

COCKADE – 15:00 Ascot (NAP)
John & Thady Gosden know COCKADE’s family very well and they can land a second contest with the lightly-raced son of Pinatubo in the Colliers Business Rates Experts Classified Stakes at Ascot on Friday. Cockade’s dam is a half-sister to a bunch of horses trained by Gosden, including Courage Mon Ami, Lion’s Pride and Danielle, and this horse looks cut from a similar cloth after two promising runs at Windsor and Newmarket in June. Given time since running green in his July Course defeat last time, he can improve here on his way to better things.
MOVEIT LIKE MINNIE – 14:48 Hexham
Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies are in cracking form and the yard are always worth taking note of when they bring one to Hexham at this time of year. MOVEIT LIKE MINNIE is their only runner on Friday and he can land the Jewson Hexham Handicap Hurdle on his first start for over five months. The nine-year-old goes well fresh and these are calmer waters than he is used to, the visor going back on looking a statement of intent.
ELSASS – 16:25 Wolverhampton
Charlie Johnston’s ELSASS looks of interest back on the all-weather in the Nuvo Audit Handicap over 1m4f at Wolverhampton. The son of Sottsass has dropped from 88 to 84 after running on turf this summer but he looks more at home on an artificial surface after wins at Chelmsford and Southwell and two good runs at Kempton from just four goes.
CABLE BEACH – 18:45 Newcastle
CABLE BEACH has been shaping well in defeat and looks primed to lay down a bold bid here in the Armah Switchgear Handicap over seven furlongs at Newcastle. Tom Tate’s horse returned from two months off at Southwell last time and put in a good performance in second, keeping on encouragingly with a view to coming back to Newcastle. He hasn’t won here, but a strong pace at seven furlongs looked a good scenario for him and he should get a good gallop to aim at here.
