Hopes high for Mags Mullins' Supreme hopeful Debuchet

Trainer Mags Mullins is excited to see what Debuchet can do over hurdles this season after welcoming her stable star back into training.

The four-year-old grey was one of Ireland's leading bumper horses last term and ran a fantastic race to fill the runner-up spot behind exciting mare Fayonagh in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in March.

Debuchet rounded off his campaign with a runaway victory in a Listed event at Limerick in early April and is expected take high rank in the novice hurdle division this season.

Sky Bet make him 14/1 for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle, the opening race of the Cheltenham Festival and one they sponsor.

Mullins said: "He's been back in work for around six weeks and he's done well. He's trotting and cantering away and we've been very happy with him.

"It will probably be the end of October or the first week of November before we run him. We're in no rush and we'll see how he is.

"We're delighted with him at the moment and he's been around in two schooling bumpers last year. It's good to have those under his belt.

"The owners are a great bunch of lads and wanted to keep hold of him, which is great, so fingers crossed we can keep him safe and sound.

"His bumper form has worked out well and he's got to make the next step now."
