Hey Gaman to drop back in trip

Hey Gaman will come back to a mile on his next appearance having failed to get home in the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly.

After being narrowly denied by Olmedo in the French 2000 Guineas, James Tate sent his colt back to France for a tilt at the French Derby.

However, after travelling strongly for a long way and briefly hitting the front in the home straight, Hey Gaman weakened into seventh place.

Tate said: "He didn't stay. He got about a mile and one and a half furlongs of the one-mile-two-furlong trip, so we will go back to a mile with him now, maybe for the St James's Palace at Royal Ascot or the Prix Jean Prat. We will just see how he is.

"The St James's Palace comes up quick enough and the good to firm ground there last year was too fast for him, but we will make a decision nearer the time."

One Tate inmate who is firmly on course for the Royal meeting is Invincible Army.

The three-year-old was an impressive winner of Ascot's Pavilion Stakes on his seasonal reappearance before being narrowly denied by Sands Of Mali in the Sandy Lane at Haydock.

A rematch between that pair in the Commonwealth Cup on June 22 is on the cards.

The Newmarket handler said: "It was as close as you could get without winning (at Haydock). I'd say conditions probably favoured front runners that day as there was a massive tailwind and it's not like we have to find much, maybe a centimetre.

"I'm sure there will be a couple of other horses that come to the fore at Ascot like Sioux Nation, or maybe Charlie Hills' horse, Equilateral.

"Invincible Army is in good form and he will give a good account of himself.

"I thought over a stiffer-run six furlongs we have got to have a good chance of finding that centimetre to beat Sands Of Mali."
