#2 Hustle Queen – 1pt win at general 7/4, Gulfstream R3 (18:27)
#3 Afterdinnerdrink – 0.5pts win at general 12/1, Golden Gate Fields R4 (22:20)
HUSTLE QUEEN isn’t the most imaginative of selections, but she looks sure to take plenty of beating in the maiden claimer that’s carded as race 3 on Gulfstream’s Sunday offering.
It was simply a case of ‘bumping into one’ when she finished second at a slightly higher level than this on her most recent start, where she was readily left behind by the impressive winner Beth’s Dream, who recorded a figure well in excess of one that’s the norm for this sort of contest.
To her credit, Hustle Queen still put nearly nine lengths between herself and the third horse in that race and won’t be meeting anything of the winner’s calibre here. 7/4 seems fair about a filly who is in the care of an in-form trainer.
Over at Golden Gate Fields a little later, I can’t resist a small bet on debutante AFTERDINNERDRINK, who’s by a sire that has a good record with first-time starters.
She seems to have had a problem or two (was scratched from a race here late last month), though she fired a strong-looking work last week, suggesting she may be back on the right track for a trainer who is a stellar operator when it comes to newcomers.
