Away and clear for Listed glory
Got Away created a minor surprise as she lifted the Listed Charnwood Forest Mares' Chase.
Oliver Sherwood's runner was sent off the 4-1 outsider of three, but was in receipt of weight from Antartica De Thaix and 8-11 favourite Lastbutnotleast.
The two principles disputed the early lead but Lastbutnotleast was being pushed along from a long way out and quickly dropped away, leaving Antartica De Thaix in front with Got Away travelling much the better.
Leighton Aspell seized the initiative with four to jump and Got Away found plenty on the run to the line, coming home four and a half lengths clear.
Sherwood said: "It was a soft fall at Newbury (last time), something and nothing. Typical of a French horse coming over here mid-season.
"We weren't sure if she'd get the trip on that ground. I'm still learning about the horse, but job done. She had good form in France. These are famous colours worn by Amadeus Wolf.
"I'd be interested to see her on better ground and I certainly won't be going further than this at the moment. I might look for a mares' chase over two and a half miles. I don't know, (it's) job done. She's won a Listed race in England."
All-the-way success for Kaloci
Kaloci ran the opposition ragged as she made a winning debut over jumps in the British Stallion Studs EBF Mares 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle.
The Stuart Edmunds-trained six-year-old went into the race on the back of a third-place in a Listed bumper and she was able to translate that form over the smaller obstacles.
Ciaran Gethings was able to dictate matters on the 3-1 shot, who pulled out more when challenged by Arian, the 6-5 favourite, to get home by two and a half lengths.
Edmunds said: "You have to admire her. We were unsure to run her because the ground was so bad. Ciaran said he'd look after her if necessary, but she was amazing.
"The form of her bumper win at Fakenham is stacking up and we ran in a Listed bumper as a stab in the dark but we thought it would be nice for her pedigree if she got placed.
"It was only her toughness that kept her going that day."
Prime survives scare
Optimus Prime was all out to hold Rayvin Black after a prolonged tussle in the Dick Christian Novice' Chase to take his unbeaten record over fences to three.
The pair battled it out from the fifth fence after Sussex Road, the only other starter, lost touch and was eventually pulled up.
Optimus Prime may have been the 2-9 favourite but it was nip and tuck in the straight with Noel Fehily kept him up to his work while Rayvin Black also gamely stuck to the task.
However, the odds-on shot just had the upper hand to score by a head for trainer Dan Skelton.
Fehily said: "I thought it was a good performance. The ground was pretty soft enough for him and he's given a lot of weight to the second. It was a good run."
Rayvin Black's rider Tom Garner said: "I think he needs two and a half over fences. He kept finding, I'm sure he'll improve again and win a race."
Garner received a two-day suspension for using his whip above the permitted level.
Winning start for Relay
Rosmuc Relay looked a decent long-term prospect when making a winning debut under rules in the Croxton Park Novices' Hurdle.
Successful in a point-to-point such a month ago, the six-year-old overcame greenness in some style in the testing conditions.
David Bass had steadily brought Rosmuc Relay (11-4) into the race to make a strong challenge to Secret Legacy when that rival came down at the final flight.
Kim Bailey's charge would probably have won anyway and pulled away to score by 19 lengths from Pull Together, with Transpennine Star third.
"He doesn't understand much about racing. He nearly lost his jockey twice on the way down to the start," said Bailey.
"We bought him at the sales and liked him. We took him away to Lambourn last week and he was unbelievably green, so this a nice way for him to start. He'll have learned a lot and we'll see where we'll go now. He's a chaser for next season."
Double delight for Dickin
Robin Dickin's Dontminddboys (15-8 favourite) overcame an injury scare to win for the second time over this extended two an three-quarter miles when taking the Racing UK Handicap Chase by a length from Shockingtimes under Jack Quinlan.
"He had a bit of a swollen leg yesterday and my staff worked very hard through the night putting ice on his leg so he come here today. Clearly he was 100 per cent or else he wouldn't have run," said Dickin. He's a very good jumper and he stays."
Dickin completed a double when James Nixon steered Tara Well (9-4) to a hard-fought victory over Hepburn in the Brook Conditional Jockeys' Mares Handicap Hurdle.
