WATCH: May 19, 2018 Haras De Bouquetot Fillies' Trial Stakes - It said everything about the esteem in which Sea Of Class was held that though still a maiden, she was pitched into Listed company on only her second career start. Nevertheless, she went on to prove a class apart at Newbury and a star of the future had been unearthed.
WATCH: June 14, 2018 Johnnie Lewis Memorial British EBF Stakes - Having skipped a tilt at the Epsom Oaks with his charge, trainer William Haggas opted for the 'gently, gently' approach with another Listed success back at Newbury coming in similarly taking fashion. Tougher targets lay ahead but Sea Of Class was now already emerging as a leading force in the three-year-old fillies division.
WATCH: July 21, 2018 Darley Irish Oaks - Following the decision to miss the English equivalent the previous month, Sea Of Class was finally thrown in at the deep end when taking on Epsom Oaks heroine Forever Together and Magic Wand in the Irish Oaks. What followed was a sizzling display from horse and rider as she mowed down her rivals with a stunning turn of foot to get up in the final strides.
Sea Of Class reels in Forever Together to win the Irish Oaks
WATCH: 23 August, 2018 Darley Yorkshire Oaks- Back in England, Sea Of Class was now tasked with taking on older horses for the first time when lining up in the Yorkshire Oaks at the Ebor Festival. It wasn't just a battle of the generations, though, with fellow three-year-old and French Oaks winner Laurens expected to provide stern opposition. She didn't, Sea Of Class putting the race to bed with her now trademark turn of foot in a matter of strides. It was a brilliant performance from a brilliant filly.
WATCH: 7 October, Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe
What might have been. The mighty Enable won her second Arc at the end of a pulsating race but for connections of Sea Of Class, her valiant effort in defeat only heightened their frustrations. Stall 15 was always going to make life tough for James Doyle and given the running style of his filly, dropping anchor at the rear of the field and coming with one late run was his only hope. And it very nearly worked, Sea Of Class producing a thundering, sustained charge in the home straight that saw her cut back Enable with every stride before the line came just in time for John Gosden's charge. Joy for the Gosden camp but heartbreak for the Haggas team. That Sea Of Class wasn't able to return to Longchamp for another crack at the great race makes subsequent events even more tragic.
