There are some terrific handicaps at Galway this evening and although yesterday was a trying day, with a few selections unlucky in-running, they are the joys of this meeting and we’ll go again with five tips for tonight.

The feature race is the Colm Quinn BMW Mile Handicap at 6.45, a great race and one that can go to Jessica Harrington this year.

I like two of her three runners starting with TAURAN SHAMAN who is worth a bet at 11/2 (General 1/5 1,2,3,4,5) from stall eight.

He came from a long way back at Cork in a race where the winner, Nebo, who is a pace angle here, made all and slipped the field, but I’d expect Tauran Shaman to keep tabs on him from his berth.

A course and distance winner last year, he’s taken time to find his feet this year and perhaps he’s only reaching peak fitness now. I expect a big run from him.

However, I can’t resist backing his stablemate ONLYHUMAN, as well, at 20/1 (General 1/5 1,2,3,4,5).

He was favourite for the race last year, but couldn’t take advantage of a good draw after a slow start, so he inevitably found trouble in the run.

His run in the Irish Lincoln at the Curragh in June was very good, he wasn’t beaten far, and he didn’t get the run of the race in a steadily run affair at Navan last time.

With a good claimer on board in Scott McCullagh, from a plum draw in stall three, he can outrun his odds in the first-time cheekpieces.

In the Colm Quinn BMW Irish EBF Corrib Fillies Stakes I like the look of A NEW DAWN who just looked like she was coming to hand last time over the extended mile at Killarney.

She was only beaten a head by Fancy lue last year on soft ground in Listed company, while she was second in Group Three company as well, while her three runs this year have been perfectly fine.

Her best effort was last time when finishing off pleasingly from a wide draw.

With conditions to suit today she looks a fair each-way bet at 4/1 (Betfair, Paddy Power 1/5 1,2,3,4).

LAYFAYETTE can strike for Noel Meade in the caulfieldindustrial.com Handicap at 6.15.

He’s got the Flying Scotsman to beat, but he only ran yesterday and I’d rather take one each-way against him with Layfayette fitting the bill.

Versatile regarding ground conditions, he was the horse to take out of the race at Cork and the handicapper dropped him a pound for that.

The son of French Navy looks to be improving in handicaps and he looks to be a solid each-way proposition (General 5/1 1/5 1,2,3).

Finally WE’LL GO AGAIN is worth a bet in the Caulfield Indisustrial Handicap at 7.45.

Madeleine Tylicki’s horse ran at the track last year and missed the start, but he went on to be beaten a neck at Cork and he won at Gowran Park after that.

He likes cut in the ground and he caught the eye on his last start at Tipperary when finding trouble in-running.

Off a mark of 67 he looks competitive considering his wins in October and his last few runs and at 12/1 (General 1/5 1,2,3,4) the son of Fast Company is worth an each-way wager.
