It’s a very good card at the Curragh today with Aidan O’Brien going for a stunning 20th success in the Group 2 Alan Smurfit Memorial Beresford Stakes at 3.15.

I must’ve been one of the last non-Ballydoyle winners of this race having taken it with Curtain Call in 2007 and in High Definition O’Brien will probably be celebrating 10 in a row later on.

That’s a race to watch and enjoy but I do have three bets on the card starting with KIND POWER in the Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Race at 1.25.

Mick Halford’s Dark Angel newcomer ran in a trial at Dundalk over six furlongs on September 7 and finished fourth, shaping extremely well.

He was held-up and finished off nicely, crucially finishing a length behind Jessie Harrington’s Deputy Sandy who was an impressive winner at Naas last week.

The time was better than the trial Ferrybank, who has been well-backed for this race, ran in, and at 22/1 I can’t let him go unbacked.

In the last race, the Manguard Plus Handicap, I’m going to give another chance to JASSAAR in a first-time visor for Dermot Weld.

He’s a big price at 20/1 getting the five places and I don’t think we’ve seen him at his best this year. He didn’t handle the track at Galway and then he just saw too much daylight as he tried to retain his Irish Cambridgeshire crown.

Off a mark of 92, on ground he’ll like, with the headgear on and Oisin Orr back on board, he’s worth one last chance.

Finally, in the Group 3 Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club Renaissance Stakes the English-trained horses look to have a few question marks against them so I’ll chance SOUTHERN HORSE each-way at 6/1.

He has a very interesting history coming from Argentina and he had good form behind Speak In Colours at this track last year.

He had excuses behind Make A Challenge on his final start for Jim Bolger and he was an eye-catching debutant for Jessie Harrington at Cork last month when a good third from a bad draw.

Shane Foley switched him to the stands’ side and he finished off really well. Today’s conditions over the stiff six at the Curragh should suit him very well indeed.
