Cork stages a competitive Flat card this afternoon with a number of short-priced favourites sure to attract plenty of attention. While clearly worth respecting, a few of them look short enough in the betting now and with some attractive each-way concessions on offer, I think there's a little bit of value to be found elsewhere.

In the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Race, the market is headed by Sir Lucan who ran a really solid race when fourth in the Beresford Stakes, but I'm not sure his form claims are that much stronger than a few of his rivals, and as such, an each-play against the favourite might be the way to go.

The 8/1 with Sky Bet about Kauri Cliffs makes plenty of appeal given I don't think we've seen the best of him just yet. The son of Gleneagles ran really well when finishing third on his Galway debut and he probably deserves marking up for his next run when fourth at Bellewstown.

He was forced wide for much of the way on that occasion, and all in all, endured a pretty rough trip having taken a hefty bump two furlongs out which ultimately put paid to his chances. The form of that race is already working out well with the third horse, A Case Of You, winning twice since, including in Group Three company at the weekend.

On a more conventional track here, and with the promise of more to come, I'd expect Kauri Cliffs to mount a bold bid and he looks worth an each-way investment against the favourite.

In the second race of the day, the CorkRacecourse.ie Handicap, I'm quite sweet on the chances of Kristall Eye who is still relatively lightly-raced after just eight career starts and caught my eye when travelling strongly over 1m2f at Fairyhouse last time out before just running out of steam late on.

She wasn't beaten too far in the end, eventually finishing sixth, and I'm convinced a mile will be her optimum trip given she ran really well over seven furlongs on her two starts prior to that last run, finishing third at Limerick before encountering trouble in running when fifth at Listowel.

This represents a slight ease in grade from the races she has been contesting of late and with the stable going great guns at present, the 11/1 on offer with Sky Bet (four places) looks too good to ignore.

My third and final selection comes in the concluding Dromahane Handicap where Dreal Deal might just be worth taking on at the 4/9 mark.

You might remember Ronan McNally's horse pulling off a major gamble over hurdles at Navan recently and he duly followed up when winning on the level at Limerick only three days ago.

As he result, he is officially 20lb well-in carrying a 6lb penalty, but this is a deeper race than the one he contested at the weekend and with the drop back in trip not an obvious plus either, I'm keen to oppose him with Poster Child.

Jim Bolger's filly doesn't have many miles on the clock and her last run, when finishing a good fourth at Navan, was a definite step forward. She was still green that day, and was denied a clear run with three furlongs to run, but she still finished strongly for fourth and should be winning races before too long.

Bolger opts for first-time cheekpieces today - which will hopefully eke out a little further improvement - and at 14/1, she makes a fair amount of appeal against a potentially vulnerable favourite.
