Milansbar is set to tackle the Betfred Eider Chase at Newcastle next month.
Trainer Neil King is planning to send the 11-year-old for the extended four-mile marathon on February 24, following his Classic Chase victory at Warwick earlier this month.
While Milansbar went up in the weights for that success, King is concerned his charge still may not make the cut for the Randox Health Grand National at Aintree in April for which he is 33/1 with Sky Bet.
He said: "Milansbar is good. He went up 9lb to 143 which makes getting in the Grand National very borderline. In the last eight years he would have got in six times, one he wouldn't and last year he might have done.
"He will go for the Eider Chase at Newcastle now. Four miles around there in the mud is made for him. He was second in the Midlands National last year so he will have no issues with that trip."
