A review of Saturday's action from York, where Joanna Mason continued her impressive association with Tapis Libre.
Joanna Mason steered Tapis Libre to victory for a seventh time when taking the prize for lady amateur riders in the Queen Mother's Cup Handicap at York.
Mason had Tapis Libre (8/1) quite handy as Imshivalla led the field into the long straight before sending him on some way out.
Mukhayyam came from a long way back to claim second place, but was a length and a quarter down at the line. Azari was a further three-quarters of a length away in third place.
Both Mason and trainer Jacqueline Coward are granddaughters of veteran Yorkshire trainer Mick Easterby.
"He just battles on and he kept going. He's so brave," Mason, who won her weight in champagne, told ITV Racing.
"When he sees another horse come to him, he goes again. He's so gritty. I'd won on him six times so now it's seven. I hope seven becomes eight!"
Followers on Ben Linfoot's Value Bet column on Sportinglife.com were once again in clover after the following JCB Handicap.
Andrew Balding's hunch that Viscount Barfield would enjoy the fast ground at York proved correct in some style as the four-year-old gelding struck for the first time in 11 months.
Salateen broke so fast from his wide draw that he was able to lead and tack across and, despite being headed, stuck on well for third place as David Probert guided Viscount Barfield home.
Mutawathea was beaten three-quarters of a length in second place with Salateen third and Above The Rest fourth.
"He's a horse I've been dying to get on this track. We did run him over a mile here last year but he needs fast ground and this style of racing really suits him," said Balding.
"I'm so pleased. David Brownlow, who owns him, has been a a supporter of mine for a lot of years and David has given him a terrific ride."
Visitant (3/1 favourite) looked a horse on the up as he powered clear under James Doyle to win the Ice & Easy Frozen Alcoholic Slushies Handicap for trainer David Thompson.
"We bought him at the Newmarket Sales. He's so laid-back," said Thompson.
"We'll give him two or three weeks and see what races there are."
The Richard Fahey-trained International Man (13/2) pulled away from his rivals under Jack Garritty in the final furlong to make a winning debut in the Reg Griffin Appreciation ebfstallions.com Maiden.
After guiding Golden Apollo to victory in the feature Catherine Kinloch Paver Memorial Macmillan Charity Handicap, Jimmy Sullivan completed a double when driving the Ruth Carr-trained Meshardal (7/1) through to win the Rievaulx Sporting Supporting Macmillan Handicap.
Josephine Gordon produced Arabian Hope (6/1) with a well-timed run to land the Listed honours in the Best Western Hotels Ganton Stakes.
