Frankie Dettori confident over Lord North stamina in Breeders' Cup Turf

Sporting Index ambassador Frankie Dettori previews his rides at the Breeders’ Cup in Keeneland including Lord North in the Turf.

Friday...

New Mandate - Juvenile Turf (8:10pm)

I’m going to do some work with him on Thursday to get him to familiarise himself with the track.

He’s got plenty of speed, in fact we had to slow him down at the start of his races in England, and a nice draw in two so I’m hopeful of a good run.

He ran round the bend well at Sandown and Ralph [Beckett] is very happy with him. I can see him running a big race.

Campanelle - Juvenile Fillies Turf (9:30pm)

I went to see her on Wednesday morning and she seemed aggressive! She went to bite me a few times and looks really up for it.

As for getting the mile, we don’t know until we try but she’s completely different to Lady Aurelia and looks built for it. She’s tall and has a lovely big stride so I think she’ll get the trip.

She won the Prix Morny on deep ground and at a stiff track, so I think a mile on fast ground around two turns is within her compass.

Saturday...

Terebellum - Filly & Mare Turf (6:57pm)

She’s drawn well and has got the speed you need in a race like this over 1m1½f.

It’s a very hot renewal, but she’s got some top Group 1 form in the book, is very consistent and everything looks set for another big run.

She has been on the go since June but there’s no doubt that this has always been the plan for her.

Lope Y Fernandez - Mile (8:15pm)

He’s a horse that you’ve got to ride cold.

I’ve got a good draw in stall three where I’m hoping I can just slot in behind Kameko and ride him for a bit of luck.

His form is pretty strong having been placed in three Group 1s this season and hopefully he can get involved if everything falls right.

Sadly there’s no Palace Pier but maybe we’ll get a chance next year.

Lord North - Turf (9:33pm)

We had to wait and see how he came out of the Champion Stakes because the ground was so deep.

He seems well and has obviously showed plenty of ability this season, but we’re in what looks like the hottest race of the meeting.

Given the way he came home over 1m2f at Ascot there’s got to be some confidence in him getting the extra two furlongs here.

There’s challengers everywhere you look and I think Mogul is a particularly interesting runner.

It was a phenomenal effort in the Grand Prix de Paris and that form has since been franked in the Arc, so you’ve got to respect him.
