Free betting tips: Sporting Life's daily horse racing nap of the day

David Ord hopes a well-handicapped mare is capable of successfully conceding weight to all her rivals at Chepstow on Friday.

Sporting Life Daily Nap, January 18

Smaoineamh Alainn is a well handicapped horse and can underline the fact by landing the Floyd Turfcare Mares' Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow.

Robert Walford's charge is back down to her last winning mark and ran well when set impossible tasks on her first two starts this term. She was strong in the market returned to handicaps at Cheltenham last time but never had a chance after a bid mistake at the fifth.

She steps up to two-and-a-half miles here, which she shapes as though will suit, and is one-from-one at the course. The excellent Rex Dingle claims a valuable five pounds off and there must be a chance she'll prove a cut above these.

Patience is a virtue and Saturday’s best bet runs in the finale at Lingfield.

Things haven’t dropped right for Miracle Works but connections have now found his best trip and all he needs is luck in running to go very close in the Betway Handicap.

He’s still a maiden after nine races but having finished strongly over five, and not getting home at seven furlongs, he was returned to six at Kempton last time. He might have won too, travelling strongly and coming with a threatening run until running into a wall of horses at the furlong pole.

The handicapper has dropped him a pound for that which means he’s now three below the mark from which he was second at Kempton on his handicap debut in July.

He’s capable of winning races and providing he doesn’t encounter traffic problems again, looks sure to run a big race.

It should be a case of third time lucky over obstacles for Golden Promise on Sunday.

He lines up for Jonjo O’Neill in the Starsports.Bet Maiden Hurdle on the back of two encouraging efforts over hurdles so far, the first of which when second to What’s Occurring at Hereford.

On the face of it, Golden Promise took a slight backwards step when only fifth back at the same venue when last seen in November but there was serious depth to that event with third Jarveys Plate the most notable as he’s since claimed Listed honours at Cheltenham.

In total, Golden Promise has bumped into five subsequent scorers in his two efforts over timber and if he’s made any sort of progress in the 68 days he’s been off the track since, then he should take all the beating in what looks a relatively ‘winnable’ affair.

Quick ground seems to suit on what we’ve seen so far but he’s bred to handle ease underfoot so the son of Flemensfirth shouldn’t be inconvenience by the bit of rain around this weekend.
