Free betting tips: Sporting Life's daily horse racing nap of the day

After four successive winning naps - including the 10/1 Becher Chase hero - Matt Brocklebank heads to Wolverhampton for his Monday best bet.

Sporting Life Daily Nap, December 10

NAP: Aircraft Carrier (6.30 Wolverhampton)

It’s fair to say Aircraft Carrier had quite the start in life.

A son of Declaration Of War, he initially fetched $350,000 as a yearling having caught the eye of the Ballydoyle team at the sales. He was to have three runs for Aidan O’Brien – winning the last of them at Gowran in October.

He was on the move to John Ryan soon after and after an inauspicious start at Chelmsford, very much took the eye here last time.

He eventually finished fourth behind Cry Wolf but found himself badly positioned when the tempo increased.

He did finish to good effect, though, and with Martin Harley taking over in the saddle – going up in trip – everything looks in place for a big run.

NAP: Nap record (settled at SP): +4.91pts (Click here for full table)

Sporting Life Daily Nap, December 11

NAP: Zodiakos (3.20 Southwell)

Zodiakos has rapidly found himself extremely well handicapped for Roger Fell.

Having been seventh in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot from a mark of 89 in 2016 when in the care of Hugo Palmer, the son of Zodiak had a pretty decent spell for new trainer Fell last year, winning three times on turf off 75, 78 and 82.

He consequently began 2018 with a rating of 85 – not far off his career best – and posted a highly-creditable third at Beverley in mid-May.

The wheels rather came off following that reappearance effort during a barren summer campaign, but the switch to synthetics lately – combined with a much-reduced mark – has seen him rediscover his mojo in a big way.

He put in a really promising performance when fourth on his Southwell debut last month before building on that to score tidily at the same track.

Last time, when reappearing swiftly under a 6lb penalty, Zodiakos was denied close home when switched to the Tapeta at Newcastle, just lacking the finishing kick of Ascot Week.

The run showed he’s still in good form and also highlighted that Southwell’s Fibresand surface is probably going to suit him best at this stage of his career – being a venue that rewards those who can get rolling early and nullify an opponent’s turn of foot.

Returning for Tuesday’s sunracing.co.uk Handicap (Div II) should be right up his street then and, from what is effectively a 3lb lower mark than at Newcastle (was only nudged back up 3lb for the Southwell win), he remains dangerously positioned in the handicap.

He clearly gets on well with Tristan Price, who takes off a very useful 7lb, and is fancied to get the better of another recent course scorer, Shearian, who has something to prove off his revised rating.

NAP: Nap record (settled at SP): +4.91pts (Click here for full table)
