Sprint king Clive Cox scores again with Lady Macapa

Clive Cox's weekend got even better as Lady Macapa landed the Qatar Prix du Petit Couvert at Chantilly.

Less than 24 hours after Harry Angel provided him with another Group One sprint at Haydock, his three-year-old filly took her form to a new level.

Off the track since finishing third to Magical Memory in the Hackwood Stakes at Newbury, she was never too far from the pace under Luke Morris.

As Kyllang Rock dropped away, the main challenge came from Pascal Bary's Gold Vibe, with David O'Meara's Fashion Queen also flashing home, but Lady Macapa hung on to claim the Group Three prize.

Cox said: "It was a wonderful result and that was very special.

"She is a filly that had promising form and was placed in a Group Three at Newbury last time. She enjoyed the soft ground there today and Luke Morris gave her a super ride.

"I'm thrilled for John Law and Michael Johnson as it's their first venture into horse racing and I am pleased it was a success. I think with conditions today, it made stamina important.

"With regard to being a sprinter, I think her ability to win over six helped her in those conditions.

"She is not in the Abbaye. We were hoping to win a Listed race, but she has jumped a gear there. From a breeding point of view it is job done and I could not be more encouraged by that performance.

"It's great to be in great form in Group races."

Snazzy win for Cox in Ireland

Meanwhile, at the Curragh, Cox's Snazzy Jazzy kept his unbeaten record intact with a clear-cut victory in the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes.

The Red Jazz youngster was a 4-1 shot to add to his previous wins at Goodwood and Windsor and battled on well against the rail for Adam Kirby to pull three lengths clear of Pretty Boy Floyd.

Cox said: "He was impressive. He was giving a bit of weight away. He's a determined and gutsy performer and has a bit class.

"I'm delighted to win a big pot today. I hope and think that he's a stakes horse."
