The September Stakes has emerged as a potential next target for Constitution Hill as connections fear the current hot spell will rule out Plan A.
That is the Weatherbys August Stakes at Windsor on August 29 but the likelihood of fast ground has Nicky Henderson considering a third run on an artificial surface for his former Champion Hurdler.
The trainer told Jack Keene in The Sun: "The weather is a big worry at the moment, not just for him but for everyone. We desperately need some rain. The plan is still to go to Windsor and that is what we’d like to do, but it is still looking very hot and very dry and we won’t run him on fast ground.
“Luckily we have the September Stakes on the all-weather a week later, so that’s our Plan B. He’s very happy and in good form.”
A potential tilt at the Sky Bet Ebor was shelved when connections ran out of time to get a third run into Constitution Hill before the deadline to qualify for the York feature.
There has been talk of a tilt at the Melbourne Cup too for the nine-year-old who was switched to the Flat in February after falling in three of his last four starts over hurdles.
He made a scintillating start when winning on debut at Southwell before following up under a penalty at Kempton. He has earned a Timeform rating of 106P off the back of those two performances, the P indicating he is capable of significant improvement.
