The Original and The Best

2020’s edition of the Weatherbys Cheltenham Festival Betting Guide, again written by Paul Ferguson and produced in association with Sporting Life, is the complete guide to The Festival, with every single fact, stat, trend and tendency to help you make the most informed bets throughout the best week of the year.

Last year’s guide featured gems like these:

  • On the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner: “…probably the most significant of those races was the last-named, which was won by KLASSICAL DREAM, who beat stablemate Aramon, himself a Grade 1 winner…”
  • The Champion Hurdle winner: “Of the possible five-year-old runners in this year’s race, ESPOIR D’ALLEN is the one who appears to be most progressive… he looks the type who could relish a strongly run race.”
  • On Foxhunters winner, HAZEL HILL: “Very rarely has a hunter chaser created such a big impression on me and he is one for any shortlist.”
  • The Fred Winter winner: "Recent Naas winner BAND OF OUTLAWS adds further weight to his (Jospeh O’Brien’s) juvenile string and, dependant on how the English handicapper rates him, he could be Fred Winter-bound."
  • The Manifesto Novices’ Chase winner: "Amy Murphy's KALASHNIKOV is another who boasts smart 2m form. The step up in trip could well suit and, if he is beaten in the Arkle at Cheltenham, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he tries an extra half-mile for the first time in this contest."
  • The Maghull Novices Chase winner: "Last year, Petit Mouchoir wasn't able to improve upon the impressive recent record of Henry de Bromhead, who is one Irish trainer who seems happy to target Aintree. He has won this race twice in the past six years and from just five runners, so take his representative(s) very seriously. It could be that he targets ORNUA at the race this year, with his front-running style sure to be suited to the track."
  • The Bumper Division section included Champion Bumper winner ENVOI ALLEN and Aintree winner THE GLANCING QUEEN.
