All the hot gossip ahead of the weekend's racing action

Get all the hot gossip ahead of the weekend's action with Mick Channon fancied to win the feature Weatherbys Super Sprint.

Kinks can see off the challenge of old rival Tin Hat and win the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury on Saturday.

One of the welcome features of the 2018 campaign so far has been the strong presence of the Mick Channon team among the juveniles winners and the selections managed to get his name on the score-sheet for the first time when beating Tin Hat at Bath in April. Both horses have performed with great credit since and were only just out of the top four in their chosen targets at Royal Ascot, Kinks in the Group Two Norfolk Stakes and his rival in the listed Windsor Castle Stakes.

There will be little between the pair again here, but Kinks is a valuable 4lb better off from their Bath meeting and is fancied to confirm the form.

Projection has been in much more consistent form this season and can collect due reward for his cracking effort behind Merchant Navy at Royal Ascot in the Group Three bet365 Hackwood Stakes.

Roger Charlton's speedster was beaten little more than two lengths in the Group One Diamond Jubilee Stakes and his two previous outings behind July Cup runner up Brando at Newmarket and The Tin Man at Windsor were also high class performances.

This looks an ideal opportunity although he faces tough opposition from Equilateral and Hey Jonesy.

Emotionless can warm up for what could be some choice targets during the remainder of the season in the Listed Bet365 Stakes. Charlie Appleby has enjoyed a brilliant first half of the campaign and his runner here is expected to add to the coffers after some very useful recent homework.

He has not raced since chasing home Benbatl at Meydan in January but he has done plenty of high class work and should be fit enough to see off a decent looking field.

Buzz missed his intended engagement at York last week, and looks worth an interest in a very good quality JLT Handicap over two miles. This represents a fair step up in trip for the three-year-old from the intended ten furlongs of the Knavesmire but he stays a mile-and-a-half really well and looks well worth taking a chance with his stamina.

His overall form this season bears the closest scrutiny and like so many of Hughie Morrison's lightly raced older horses, has scope for much more improvement.

Wise Counsel can build on his very promising debut effort on this course last month in the bet365 Novice Stakes. Clive Cox chose what looked a tough first assignment for this son of Invincible Spirit and subsequent performances have vindicated that opinion.

Several winners have come out of the race, with more than one looking to hold real Pattern class potential. Wise Counsel ran a very promising race to finish sixth and given normal improvement, should take plenty of beating in a race where he boasts the best form of those who have run.

Highgarden can put a slightly below par performance in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot behind her with victory in the listed Smarkets Betting Exchange Aphrodite Stakes at Newmarket. John Gosden's three year old had previously finished a very respectable third to Give And Take in the Musidora at York. That form, coupled with her very solid recent homework, suggests she can make this fairly hefty drop in class count.

Major Partnership can strike for Godolphin in the Smarkets Novice Stakes. Made favourite for his only start so far at Kempton in April, the son of Iffraaj lost ground at the start and then ran very green before being easily outpointed by the John Gosden-trained Il Primo Sole.

The winner's subsequent performances when fifth in the French 2000 Guineas and eighth in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot suggest there was not too much disgrace in the defeat but the fact that Major Partnership has since undergone an operation on his breathing suggests he may not have been at his most effective at the business end of the race.

His recent work has delighted Saeed Bin Suroor and his team and this looks an ideal stepping stone to something bigger later in the summer.

Dusty, a stablemate of Kinks, looks the sort to improve steadily from her eye-catching comeback effort behind Goodnight Girl at Windsor and is fancied to concede weight all round in the Enter ITV7 On Sunday For Free Maiden Handicap at Ripon.

Fearless Warrior should go well on his debut in the Club 188 Exclusive Offers Novice Stakes at Lingfield. Ralph Beckett has his team in great nick and this half brother to smart handicapper Via Serendipity looks potentially a useful prospect. He could be the value to beat likely favourite Good Fortune.
