Invincible Army tops strong field for Sandy Lane Stakes


Invincible Army heads a top-class field of eight declared for Saturday's Armstrong Aggregates Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock.

James Tate's runner was a clear-cut winner of the Pavilion Stakes at Ascot on his return, but he faces a stiff task in what appears to be an exceptional renewal of this Group Two, which serves as a trial for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

James Garfield drops back in trip to six furlongs after failing to see out the mile when seventh in the 2000 Guineas, while Clive Cox's Heartache, winner of the Queen Mary and Flying Childers last term, makes her return.

Sands Of Mali lines up for Richard Fahey after landing the Prix Sigy on his seasonal bow, with last year's Prix Morny hero Unfortunately trying to bounce back for Karl Burke after finishing down the field in the Middle Park on his final start last term.

Brian Meehan's Barraquero has been off the track since his Richmond Stakes triumph at Goodwood last August and has also been declared. Emblazoned takes a huge step up for John Gosden after winning novice events at Lingfield and Yarmouth.

Last year's Anglesey Stakes winner Actress completes the field for Aidan O'Brien, but she has failed to sparkle in two starts so far this term.
