Argentina's Max Richeze prevailed in a chaotic finish to the opening stage of the 54th Presidential Tour of Turkey in Konya on Tuesday.
Richeze (QuickStep-Floors) beat Irishman Sam Bennett (Bora-hansgrohe) in a bunch sprint in the 148.4-kilometres stage.
Luxembourg's Jean Pierre Drucker (BMC Racing) was third.
Richeze would ordinarily have worked in service of QuickStep-Floors team-mate Fernando Gaviria in the bunch sprint.
But Gaviria crashed 4km from the finish and then new QuickStep-Floors leader Alvaro Hodeg slipped 600m from the finish, so Richeze seized his moment, sprinting to the line.
Gaviria remounted his bike to complete the stage, but the Colombian later had to abandon the race with a fractured collarbone.
It was an eventful day for the Belgian team, who on Monday announced they will have a new title sponsor from 2019, when they will be known as Deceuninck-QuickStep.
Wednesday's second stage is the 149.6km route which begins in Alanya and finishes in Antalya.
