Great Britain's former three-time BMX world champion Shanaze Reade has announced her retirement.
The 28-year-old Crewe rider was BMX world champion in 2007, 2008 and 2010 but twice suffered Olympic final disappointment, at the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Games.
Reade also won team sprint world titles on the track with Victoria Pendleton in 2007 and 2008 and returned to the velodrome targeting Tokyo 2020.
However, she has now retired and will take on an ambassadorial role with British Cycling, who said she will work on their "women's strategy, which aims to get more women and girls to take up cycling as either a sport, recreational activity or a mode of transport".
Reade also intends to qualify as a personal training instructor and work as a BMX coach.
Reade said: "I'll always be grateful for the support, training and opportunities British Cycling has provided me with over the years - both on and off the track.
"While my BMX and track career with the Great Britain cycling team has been both successful and rewarding, I'm now ready to move on from this experience to see what the future holds."
