Sprinter Adam Gemili out of Anniversary Games

British sprinter Adam Gemili has pulled out of Sunday's Muller Anniversary Games due to an unspecified injury.

The 23-year-old, who represented Team GB at the last two Olympics, was due to compete in the 200m at the London Stadium but is not fit enough.

However, he hopes to be ready for next month's World Championships, taking place at the same venue.

Gemili said: "I will not be competing at the Muller Anniversary Games on Sunday.

"I have been carrying an injury and after seeing a specialist, I was pleased to hear that I will be able to resume full training shortly but sadly this weekend comes too soon.

"I'm sure everybody knows how much I love athletics, how proud I am to race for my country and that I always give it my all, so it is truly gutting to be missing out on competing at what I know will be another great event with a great crowd.

"The Muller Anniversary Games is a highlight of the year and I will be at the London Stadium cheering on the other athletes this Sunday.

"Selection permitting, I will be at the London Stadium in a few weeks doing what I love, giving my all representing Great Britain."
