The Seattle Seahawks enjoyed their first trip to London as they dominated the Oakland Raiders in a 27-3 victory at Wembley.
The Seahawks led from the off and never looked back, with Russell Wilson throwing three TD passes while Seattle’s defence was dominant when sacking opposite number Derek Carr six times and forcing constant pressure on the Oakland offence all night.
Despite being billed as the ‘away’ team for this first NFL game of the season at Wembley, it was exactly the opposite for the Seahawks who were backed by a boisterous majority of the crowd.
And that crowd were rewarded with a touchdown on the opening drive as Wilson found Jaron Brown after a perfect first series of possession.
Oakland were never really in the contest as Carr was under pressure all night while their defence could not contain Wilson – as shown by his second score when he even had time to recover his own fumble before finding David Moore in the end zone.
Two Sebastian Janikowski either side of half time gave Seattle a 20-point lead, which increased to 27-0 when Tyler Lockett caught a ten-yarder after another elusive move from Wilson.
Matt McCrane finally got the Raiders on the board in the fourth quarter but all that did was avoid the shutout as the Raiders slipped to 1-5 with their season already looking over.
For Seattle, they move on to 3-3 heading into their bye week with real optimism that they could yet challenge for a play-off spot this season.
