Veteran running back Adrian Peterson has signed a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins as the team look to solve their injury crisis.
Rookie running back Derrius Guice will miss his entire first season in the NFL after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in pre-season, while veterans Samaje Perine and Byron Marshall also went down injured during the build-up to the season.
That left Washington in the market for a new running back and they've opted to bring in one of the best rushers of his generation in the seven-time Pro Bowl selection.
Peterson was released by the Arizona Cardinals in March after his 2017 season was ended prematurely by a neck injury.
After also looking at Jamaal Charles and Orleans Darkwa, Washington opted for Peterson and the 33-year-old was hapy to extend his career.

"I'm excited," Peterson said in a statement.
"It's been a long off-season but I've been keeping my body in shape and [I'm] ready for this opportunity. So when this opportunity presented itself, I was just excited."
The 33-year-old was the star of the Minnesota Vikings until leaving for an unsuccessful spell in New Orleans with the Saints. Arizona offered him a way out and he ran for a combined 519 yards in 2017.
He became one of the most dominant rushers in the game when running for 12,276 yards on 2,574 regular season carries over his 11-year career - and he heads to Washington stuck on 99 rushing touchdowns and hoping to break the century mark during the coming campaign.
