Monday round-up

Minnesota Vikings claimed a 20-17 victory over Chicago Bears to round off the Week 5 action in the NFL

The Bears' defence was left chasing shadows as Jerick McKinnon found the endzone on a 58-yard run after Case Keenum connected with Kyle Rudolph on a 13-yard pass.

After a first half where both defences came out on top - the only scoring was a safety for the Bears and a field goal for the Vikings - the second half saw the scoreboard tick over more frequently, with a Kai Forbath field goal from 26-yards sealing the win with just over two minutes left on the clock.

The San Francisco 49ers' winless streak continued following a dramatic 26-23 overtime defeat at the Indianapolis Colts which grabbed headlines due to the early departure of US Vice President Mike Pence.

Former Indiana governor Pence, who was at the Lucas Oil Stadium to watch a jersey retirement ceremony for Colts great Peyton Manning, walked out after several 49ers players took the knee during the national anthem as part of ongoing protests against perceived racial injustice.

On the field, Adam Vinatieri kicked the winning field goal - his fourth of the match - nine minutes into the additional period to earn Indianapolis a second victory of the season following earlier rushing touchdowns from Marlon Mack and Jacoby Brissett.

The struggling 49ers, who have now lost their opening five matches of the NFL season, had battled back to force overtime thanks to touchdowns from running back Kyle Juszczyk and tight end George Kittle.

Sunday round-up

Aaron Rodgers threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams with 11 seconds remaining to lift the Green Bay Packers to a 35-31 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Seattle slowed Los Angeles' league-leading offense to pull even with the Rams in the NFC West.

The Rams took a 10-0 lead in the second quarter, but had five turnovers in the game and were unsuccessful on four trips to the redzone as the Seahawks then reeled off 16 unanswered points for the win.

Joe Flacco passed for 222 yards, Mike Wallace caught three passes for 133 yards and Baltimore ended a two-game losing streak 30-17 in Oakland.

Cornerback Jimmy Smith scored on a 47-yard fumble return in the first quarter for the Ravens (3-2), who moved into a tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers for first place in the AFC North.

The Raiders (2-3), meanwhile, lost their third straight game and look lost without quarterback Derek Carr, who is still out with a broken bone in his back - replacement EJ Manuel completed 13 of 26 passes for 159 yards and one touchdown.

Carson Wentz threw a career-best four touchdowns as the Philadelphia Eagles crushed the Arizona Cardinals 43-7 at Lincoln Financial Field.

Quarterback Wentz tossed successful scoring passes to Trey Burton, Zach Ertz and Torrey Smith in the first quarter before picking out Nelson Agholor with a 72-yard throw in the third period to give the Eagles a third successive win.

Cam Newton was another man in form, throwing three touchdowns to help the Carolina Panthers secure a slender 27-24 victory at the Detroit Lions.

Newton, who came under fire earlier in the week for an alleged sexist remark to a female reporter, picked out Christian McCaffrey, Devin Funchessand and Kelvin Benjamin as the Panthers held off a late Lions fightback to move 4-1.

At the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Philip Rivers threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Melvin Gordon with less than three minutes remaining as the Los Angeles Chargers ended a nine-game losing streak with a 27-22 victory over the winless New York Giants.

Elsewhere, the Buffalo Bills went down for the first time in three matches as they were beaten 20-16 at the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cleveland Browns remain without a win after they lost 17-14 at home to the New York Jets, the Jacksonville Jaguars won 30-9 at the Pittsburgh Steelers, while Jay Cutler produced a fourth-quarter touchdown pass as the Miami Dolphins beat the Tennessee Titans 16-10.

Alex Smith threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns to help the Kansas City Chiefs remain undefeated with a 42-34 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday night.
