The New York Giants fired head coach Ben McAdoo on Monday, following their 24-17 defeat to the Oakland Raiders on Sunday that saw them slip to 2-10 on the season.

The firing of McAdoo follows a tumultuous week in which the team benched two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Eli Manning for back-up Geno Smith against Oakland, ending his streak of 210 straight starts.

It is the first mid-season head coaching move by the Giants since Bill Arnsparger was replaced seven games into the 1976 season by John McVay.

Additionally, the Giants have also fired general manager Jerry Reese. It caps a disastrous injury-marred season for the Giants, who lost star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr for the year on October 8.

Last week, following the benching of Manning, Giants owner John Mara said that changes could be coming, adding there were "no guarantees" that McAdoo would last through the end of the season, adding he was "embarrassed" by the team's record.

McAdoo's record through two seasons in New York is 13-15. He led the Giants into the playoffs with an 11-5 mark and a second-place finish in the NFC East last season before this year's 2-10 nightmare.

In all, he spent four years with the team, serving as Tom Coughlin's offensive coordinator from 2014-15 before taking over as head coach.
