Players from the Buffalo were left stunned and angry in equal measure after Vontae Davis decided to retire from the NFL at half time of their game against the LA Chargers.
The 30-year-old cornerback called time on his ten-year career during half time in Los Angeles with the Bills being soundly beaten 28-6.
Davis informed head coach Sean McDermott that he was done and realised that he could no longer cut it in the NFL, and did not take the field for the second half.
The bizarre move left his team-mates stunned but Davis insisted he had made the right decision and defended taking the option of sitting out the second half.
Buffalo Bills tackle Kyle Williams voiced his anger at Davis after his shock half time retirement.
"I think the only thing to say is he's where he needs to be right now,” said Williams. “That's not here point blank and simple."
Bills linebacker Lorenzo Alexander said he had found out during the second half of the game.
"I never have seen that. I don't have nothing to say about Vontae," Alexander said.
"I'm going to give him a little bit more respect than he showed us today, as far as quitting on us in the middle of the game.”
